(03/22/2018) - The new federal spending bill includes a provision that will allow parents and caregivers of autistic kids to voluntarily apply to have non-invasive tracking technology attached to their kids to help locate them if they wonder away from home or school.

I say bravo!

I know attaching tracking devices to kids, in general, isn’t something new; but was wondering:

-1. When it comes to Hallie and Michael, if you were Howard and Bernie is it something you’d do?

-2. Is it too much of a leap to think that we are heading toward a time when tracking devices for kids will become as routine as childhood immunization?

I know it all sounds rather Big Brotherish; but, if it acts as a deterrent, helps keep kids safe, and saves lives thumbsup_tone1 .

What say you?

Maybe not so bad, as long as the parents have - and are ALLOWED to have - the tracking removed when the kids get older. Especially when they turn 18. But once something like this started, I wouldn't be surprised if it became illegal to have them removed, at ANY age.

Don't know about illegal, but can envision a couple of situations that could lead to legal battles…

--A parent of a minor child wants to remove it, and a third-part intervenes with a best-interest-of-the-child objection.

--An adult autistic who received one as a kid wants it removed, and their guardian opposes it.

Probably others...but, can't think of any right now.

1: Not a chance . Sounds like overkill and another way for companies to track your tendencies and use them for advertising purposes a la Google.

2: How very "Black Mirror" . 50 years ago today's technology was inconceivable. I expect the same will be true in another 50 years and even current tracking methods will be as obsolete as cassette tapes and VHS.

-1. Yes. If you build it—OF COURSE—they will come. But, when it comes to worst-case scenario—have to weigh the +’s against the -‘s.

-2. Yes. But; no doubt, to be replaced by another method.

No need for chips as the Wolowitz clan will have all the latest tech gadgets on hand to keep in non stop touch with each other, each gadget tracking their every move as well.
