From watching this recent episode it got me thinking about names. Do you know what your name means and it's historical origins? Do you know why your parents chose your name?
(You don't have to tell us your name for the shy folks)
I'll share mine. My real first name is Andrew derived from the Greek Andreas meaning "manly or masculine". My parents named me after my grandfather .
We went through the same issue Howard and Bernadette had when we came up for a name for my son. We settled on Andrew jr and we call him A.J.

That sure beats Admiral A.J. Chegwidden from JAG.
Albert Jethro.
Donald Bellisario seems to have some kind of fixation. On NCIS (the original), Mark Harmon plays Leroy Jethro Gibbs.
Maybe he was just a big fan of The Beverly Hillbillies?

We recycled names from previous generations. Often from two different relatives (killing two birds…).
If your name is David Michael Whistler then you would be named for, say, Grandfather David and Uncle Michael. While the first name being a family name is pretty much written in stone—not so middle names. David’s middle name could easily be Magento, if his parents were so inclined, and no one in the family would feel slighted.
My first name is the same as my mom's oldest brother. My middle name was chosen by my dad’s sister--she worked in a cleaners during high school and the couple was nice to her.... My family tends not to do “Junior”. At the moment, can only think of one cousin who is a Jr.

My name is Dennis. Its origins I believe are from the Greek Party God Dionysus, however my parents told me they named me after Dennis the Menace comic strip.

My mother wanted to call me Eva Marie, my father said no, they settled on Becky (although I spell it Becci). I won't tell my middle name though (it was a great aunts middle name).

I have to Google mine, gimme a sec........
Erica: origin is scandinavian, derived from the old Norse name Erikr and it means "Sole ruler" or "Eternal ruler" per Wikipedia.
My Dad picked my name and I'm named after my Grandmother on my mother's side.
My parents named my brother Robert jr after my dad, so you can tell my family just recycles names for the hell of it. My dad is actually Rob the 2nd so my brother Is Rob the 3rd.

Welcome to the club.
(Except that in our family it’s more about tradition and deference.)
