"Ozymandias"

No secret that Team Chucky is a big fan of Vince Gilligan and his show "Breaking Bad". Also, last night was not the first time they've wink at same. Also, there was a wink wink in the episode about the Will/Penny movie, "Serial Ape-ist 2: Monkey See, Monkey Kill" and again in Chuck's love-note-to-self following the episode.

Trust me, if I had a giddy bone in my body--I would have been giddy as a tick on a fat dog when Sheldon said Ozymandias.

Anyway, it brought back a flood of good memories about one of the best shows I've ever seen on TV.

"Ozymandias"

Likely the greatest television episode of all time.

Only episode of a show I can think of that might be better is "The Entire History of You" episode of Black Mirror or "The Obsolete man" episode of the Twilight Zone.

Also honorable mentions to

GOT episodes "Winds of Winter" and "Battle of the Bastards".

Thought it was better than the final episode of the series--and that's going some.

Been thinking about "Black Mirror"--saw a few minutes of the first episode. It didn't really grab me; it seemed so-much-like-so-many others already out there. That's isn't going to, necessarily, stop me from giving it another look-see. Keep hearing so much about it that I'm leaning toward trying it again--but, it's only a back-of-my-mind thing for now.

Subject to watch a TTZ episode anytime--a lot of superior storytelling there; and yes, "The Obsolete man" is one of the great ones.

As for GOT--probably one of only three people on the planet who have never laid eyes .

FKA, I must tell you this as a Black Mirror fan. The fan base urges new watchers NOT to start with Season 1 episode 1. It's probably the weakest episode of the entire series and not indicative of the quality, style and depth of the show.

You already watched it but don't let it deter you from watching more. Some of the episodes after that will really shake you to the core especially "White Bear" , and "The Entire History of You" which was actually in talks to be made into a feature film.

Yeah when I started watching my kids told me to skip the first episode because it sucks compared to the rest.

I'd like to add "Exodus" episode of Battlestar Galactica to the best tv episodes list.

First "Ozymandias" reference I remember, and still my favorite:

Trust me to go looking for one thing; and, come back with something else.

Thought I recognized a young John Nolan (who did a great turn as a modern day the-needs-of-the-many... super villain on a multi-season story arc of “Person of Interest”). Checked the credits and it turned out to be John Hurt. Except for “1984”, didn’t really know Hurt likethat.

Even so, the movie (though kind of “camp”), is the kind of thing I’d watch if I ran up on it late at night.

It was actually meant originally to be the pilot for a series. I would have enjoyed seeing that. I don't know if they added the nudity when they found out it wouldn't be a series, or if they first made it as a movie and then would have taken out the nudity for TV... Or maybe they were pitching it to something like Showtime/HBO, rather than broadcast TV.

"Ozymandias" was likely meant to be a recurring/returning villain/theme.

Roddenberry had a few more series pilots as movies, only one of which ended up becoming a series. That one, like Star Trek, actually had TWO pilots made, with almost total cast changes. Star Trek had only Leonard Nimoy as Spock in both pilots, the first pilot "Genesis II" and the second pilot "Planet Earth" shared only Ted Cassidy as Isiah. (And like the Starship Enterprise, the Sub-Shuttle appeared in both.) Then there was a third attempt apparently bypassing Roddenberry ("Strange New World"). and finally the concept was moved from Earth to space (again) and became "(Gene Roddenberry's) Andromeda" which ran for 5 seasons, starring Kevin "Hercules" Sorbo (who wasn't in any of the 2 or 3 pilots).

I found it interesting that all of those pilots were made in "movie" form, 90- or possibly 120-minutes with commercials, rather than trying to fit into an hour.

Another later Roddenberry series, "Earth: Final Conflict" just showed up without an earlier pilot, as far as I can tell. Certainly not a rejected first one, followed by a successful second try.
