In another thread there was a discussion on the matter of which BBT character corresponds to which Peanuts character. Well it soon came to an end but it did get me to thinking about what Sheldon once referred to as "the optimistically named funny pages" (Episode - The Boyfriend Complexity").

1) Do you read the "funny pages" ?

2) What is your favorite funny or one you were fond of ?

3) Compare and contrast any BBT character with any comic strip character from any decade Example: Penny and "Cathy", Leonard and "Ziggy", Sheldon and "Krazy Kat", Bert and "Dilbert", Mary Cooper and "Mary Worth" I am not looking for correlations just set one off against the other.

4) Have you ever written, if only in the margins of a notebook, a comic or at least a drawing of such.

5) Or as in the manner of Sheldon are you not a fan.

5) Finally I suppose I will have to mention web based comics. There I just did.

My answers: 1) Yes or at least glance through them 2) No big favorites right now however I do think there should be an expiration date on them. 3) I would say that "Garfield the Cat" and Debbie Wolowitz are a good match as they both enjoy the lasagna at "The Olive Garden". 4) Not with pictures but written out Batman style stories.

  1. I don't read the funny pages anymore, but I used to every evening when I was growing up.

  2. I guess my favorite was The Far Side. Although I enjoyed For Better or For Worse, too.

  3. This one's hard! Can I have a free pass on it since I did so many Peanuts comparisons in the other thread? I really like your comparison of Leonard and Ziggy. That's good.

  4. Do the doctored pictures I made for this board over the years count as comics?

Bert and Dilbert are not similar, despite their names. Dilbert is the main character in the strip (and the 30-episode TV show). Unless Bert gets his own show, "The Big Bert Theory," it doesn't work.

On the other hand, I always thought someone should do a mash-up TV series or something of Dilbert and 24. Because, you know, all the main Dilbert names are based on "bert" (or in one cases "Dil"). Dilbert, Catbert, Dogbert, Ratbert, Dadbert... (his mother is Dilmom.) 24 had Dennis Haysbert, Elisha Cuthbert, Keifer Suther...bert. Fun!

-1. Yes! A big fan.

-2. "Hagar the Horrible"

-3. Bernie and Mr. Dithers (We all know she WILL run the company someday. She is easily a Dithers-in-training).

-4. No. Can't draw a crooked line--so, don't think I've embarrass myself by trying to draw a comic.

If Bernadette is Mr Dithers, does that mean Howard is Mrs Dithers, with all the spending/shopping/etc? Fascinating. But it does seem to fit.

I am not looking for personality comparisons here. Bert, Dilbert. Both have similar names. That's all. But one or two of the Dilbert animals might have a BBT comparison. Don't overthink this. That's Sheldon's job.

Hi Z! I love your new profile image btw.

1) I did when people used to read actually paper new papers back in the Mesozoic era.

2) Calvin and Hobbes is hands down the greatest comic of all time and Bill Waterson is a legend.

3) I love Garfield. People seem to forget Garfield had a live action film starting Bill Murray and Breckin Meyer.

4) I used to illustrate and write comics and I've written A LOT of poetry.

Well, he was on his way--until "Dithers-In-Training" curbed his enthusiasm.

Thanks for the compliment on the profile image. I just did a search for Z and found all of these Z is for Zebra images !

Yes "Calvin and Hobbes" was the best. Come to think of it are you Susie Derkins all grown up ? I think you might be grinning

I also remember the Garfield movie. One of Bill Murray's better regular roles.
