First off I thought "The novelization Correlation" was one of the best episodes so far this season. Leonard proved that writing fiction is not his strong suit but he definitely underestimated how hard it is to write stories. Some of the great American novels took 10+ years to write.

That "Ilsa" chracter in his book was a LOT more Bernie than it was Penny or Beverly . Either way Freud would have had a field day studying Leonard.

I thought Will made a great choice not putting Sheldon on his show, Sheldon is horrible on camera and he would have tried to hog the spotlight (fun with flags, anyone?)

Also I love episodes where they play chess but Sheldon had to know Amy would see through his ruse right away.

Here's some questions for you guys

1)Have you ever written or tried to write a novel? (I have several unfinished ones)

2)Do you want more Wheaton episodes?

3) Do you play play chess? How good are you and do you think you could beat Sheldon?

( For those who were on IMBD you might remember we had a classic thread about 4 years ago about which of us could beat Sheldon in chess)

Great questions, Erica!

1.I tried to write a children's short story once based on a story I told my kids in the car on the way to Disneyworld. They laughed and laughed. However, by the time I tried to write it, enough time had passed that I forgot some of the details, and more importantly, trying to shorten it to kids-book-length was hard. I have thought about starting over with it someday.

2.Not really. I'm not all that enamored with Wil.

3.I like to play chess, but usually get beaten, and could never beat Sheldon.

  1. I wrote a book geared towards the Trixie Belden/Nancy Drew crowd when I was in my mid-teens, probably got about half-finished. Wish I'd kept it, I'd love to read it now and get a good laugh.
  2. I think we get just about as much Wil Wheaton as I need.
  3. I know how to play chess, but I haven't played in years. Sheldon would probably beat me in three moves. Maybe two. stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes

1.) I wrote a couple short stories in the 80s, one was about some people waking up in a cryogenic chamber and having to figure out what had happened to the world; the other was based on using computer-enhanced imagery to produce blackmail "photos" and "video" created from data captured in computer medical scanning etc. These days you could say it might have come from those "naked x-ray" machines that were being used for airport security but which I've heard are being discontinued. So I was definitely ahead of my time! Both probably would have sold if a friend of mine at the time (sort of a minor Sheldon) hadn't insisted on being my "literary agent" and muffing it badly.

2.) Wil shows up just about enough, really. But some additional sightings of him as Professor Proton would be welcome.

3.) I never got into chess, probably because so many of the kids at the time I was growing up, viewed it as a kind of warfare - especially psychological warfare - and that idea didn't sit well with me. I knew how to move the pieces but never got into any of the endless strategies. So all I ever did was lose quickly, but I didn't give a particle about it.

Short stories a bit not no novel yet. Although I did attend a few meetings of a group centered around NaNoWrMo (National novel Writing Month) https://nanowrimo.org/ which is in November I believe

2)Do you want more Wheaton episodes?

Here and there. I do want to see the return of Gino the Neutrino. Also one last good Evil Wheaton if that could be worked in.

3) Do you play play chess? How good are you and do you think you could beat Sheldon?

Used to. I would not play with Sheldon because it not be fun or challenging just annoying. But I am up for Giant Jenga anytime.

1) Novel - No. Poetry - Yes. (I'm a constant note-taker, always have been, and think about a novel sometimes; but know I don't have that kind of discipline....)

2) "More" as in: (A) See him again? OR (B) Frequenter appearances?

(A) - Yes.

(B) - No.

3) - Played all the time--once; but haven't in a few. Probably could have given Sheldon a "good game" once; but beat him--not then and CERTAINLY not now.

1)Tried several times, never finished one. My wife actually finished a novel but she's has issues trying to get it published.

2) The character has become less of an antagonist as of late . It's like the writers forgot he's to supposed to be a mortal enemy to Sheldon.

3) I'm really good, played in tournaments and everything but I never got officially ranked.

I could give Sheldon a run for his money .

Judging by the responses, there seems to be quite a few writers on this Board. (That's my entire comment. grin )

LOL indeed. I take it as a sign of the high intelligence of our little group!

I was a voracious reader as a young 'un and was praised in school for my book report writing, as well as my spelling, grammar and enunciation. One of the things my husband and I have in common is our love of wordplay and our colloquial use of what they call "50-cent words". I wrote a first-person essay once that even my hard-to-impress sister gushed over.

Alas, as with many of my other interests, writing fell by the wayside. Much like Frenchy from the movie Grease , I had the dream but not the drive. Put another way, I was too lazy to pursue a career in writing.

Lots of writers here, but few finishers. I think we've all at some point fallen victim to the dreaded "writer's block". And Personally, when book writing stopped being fun and became a chore, I left it for a new project, just like my pre-marital relationships.

In my case, I finished both of the stories I had ideas for. But I can't think of enough story to fill a whole novel. And once I found out how difficult it actually was, not to write, but to get something PUBLISHED, I just focused on electronics, computers, etc.

Some people may have Sheldon-ish gremlins in their heads that force them to write, even if it never gets published; but thankfully I am not one of them.

I have also been a part of a few writers groups which I think just distracted me from actually writing and exposed me to so many writers good and bad and so so that it kind of depressed me.

1) I have written and published a novella (SF revolving around the futility of manned spaceflight beyond our solar system) and a novel (contemporary fiction inspired by an actual case years ago where one college student [young woman] was involved in the murder of another college student [also female] over a mutual [male] love interest). I have a number of unpublished short stories/novellas lying around and one massive space-opera type novel which will probably never be published.

2) I watch TBBT in syndication, so have not seen the most recent seasons. What I saw of him in the earlier seasons, I enjoyed, but as others here have said, I think less would probably equal more (don't over-use the character, in other words).

3) Not really . . . sort of. I kind of have my own rules, tolerated only by friends. I'll give you an idea . . . my knights "hop". (Hey . . . they should be able to hop . . . they are on horses!) So in reality, I'm no good and Sheldon would obliterate me.

Went to one once anguished (didn’t last past orientation). Found the partakers too (can’t even find the right word—so you know I didn’t belong). I want to say “pretentious”; but not quite sure that covers it.

Anyway, I just wanted to go around the room, look each one in the eyes and say: “Twain” and “Austen” did not have sex, so did not beget you, or you, or you, or….

Not saying there is anything wrong with having loads and loads of confidence— AND maybe all of them were as talented as they seemed to think. But, I found being in a room with so many attention-seeing egos tiring.

One Sheldon (substitute writer-wannabe for scientist) in a room would be enough for any mortal being to bear. But with a room full of Sheldons--even “Job” would have been running, screaming for the door.
