... to know if fans of TBBT like "Young Sheldon" or not. They seem very different in types of humor and emotional appeal.
I tried to like TBBT several times, but couldn't. I found it shallow, unfunny and annoying. I'm a huge fan of YS. And Annie Potts is the cherry on the sundae.

Love both shows. Very different animals, yes - I describe them as the yin to the other's yang. The Big Bang Theory is one of the funniest shows I've ever seen, and has a solid place on my All-Time Favorite Sitcoms list.
It's too soon to say whether Young Sheldon will gain a spot on that list, but it's definitely one of my current favorites. As many BBT fans will probably tell you, when the show was announced there was much trepidation that it would be a dismal failure, crashing and burning and being the subject of much derision. Or, at the very least, it wouldn't be all that good.
I, for one, am impressed with how everyone involved has pulled it off. I feel that having knowledge of Sheldon from BBT only adds to my enjoyment, but I'm glad to hear that even those who are not fans of the original like YS and appreciate what a good show it is. I also feel that seeing Sheldon's childhood is giving me a greater appreciation of him on Big Bang as well.

I am liking YS much more than TBBT right now. I can see how one can be a fan of one and not the other.

I didn't like it when I saw the pilot. And I thought it was absurd to air the pilot in September, and then wait until November for new episodes. But it's grown on me. And I think Annie Potts as Mee-Maw is the break out star of the show.
It's clearly a different show than TBBT. But honestly, it's better than most sit-coms on network TV right now. It's VERY hard to find even a decent comedy. There's so much Simple Simon stuff out there, like Matt LeBlanc's forgettable show on Monday's (sitting here I can't remember the name of the show).
But good comedy is HARD to do. I'm mildly amused by YOUNG SHELDON, but I'm actually starting to enjoy the family dynamic of the characters. It's not 'drop-dead funny', but it is decent.
Honestly though, if it hadn't been for "Sheldon" drawing me to it, I probably never would have given it a chance. I'm glad we did and that we stuck with it. They seem to be finding their groove.

Liked the pilot episode; but, not so much that it made me a fan; although can't say I'll never give it a re-look.
As for you trying to like TBBT, but couldn't; I done that more than once with highly-trotted, critically exclaimed, fan favorites. Obviously, even the most-excellent shows just are not everyone’s cuppa tea.
Thanks goodness for variety – AND, of course, freedom of choice!
