Debate The Big Bang Theory

We did this one back on IMDB - so I thought with the New Year, we could do this as a new thread here on TMDB.

I'll start with one from the man I've seen live more than any other act, John Mellencamp.

This is "Minutes to Memories", one of my favorites from JCM. Here's some of the ending lyrics that spoke to a generation back in 1985, and still speak to new generations today.

The old man had a vision but it was hard for me to follow
I do things my way and I pay a high price
When I think back on the old man and the bus ride
Now that I'm older I can see he was right

Another hot one out on highway eleven
This is my life It's what I've chosen to do
There's no free rides, no one said it'd be easy
The old man told me this my son i'm telling it to you

Days turn to minutes and minutes to memories
Life sweeps away the dreams that we have planned
You are young and you are the future
So suck it up and tough it out and be the best you can

32 years of my days have become memories since I first heard this tune, and I still love it.

Enjoy! And share some tunes from acts you've seen live!

I've seen them live twice, Anthony Kiedis touched my hand and I nearly lost my mind. My friends thought that was hilarious.

Used to work as an usher in a concert venue so I saw lots of acts of all sorts.

Also The Three Tenors.

Do You Really Want to Hurt Me

Such a fun concert. Culture Club was with Howard Jones and Human League that night.

Wow that is some 80s awesomeness!

Yes, it was loads of fun- and all still had great voices. It was in 1998.

I know I probably posted this a few years back, but seeing Prince and the Revolution - just wow. in 1984 they were at the top of their game and rank in my Top 10 Shows I've ever seen. Saw them twice when they opened up the PURPLE RAIN tour here in Detroit at Joe Louis Arena. Including opening night.

This is DIRTY MIND from a 1982 show. Captured only in black and white - the Capitol Theater used to videotape all shows. I'd love to see that collection of music. This is a great version of this tune. IMO far better than the studio version. Prince was a true showman. You can see him giving cues during the tune, guiding his band.

PRINCE - DIRTY MIND

I love when they kick into action at 3:25
This group rocked.

I crack up at the "porn-stache" guy at 4:52 lol

Lea Salonga - "I Dreamed A Dream"

I've seen several live bands, including performing many of their most popular songs. But the most memorable has to be Weird Al Yankovic, in Portland, Oregon, 1982 or so? Along with his usual repertoire he also was introducing a work in progress, a new parody of Jim Croce's "Time In A Bottle."

If I could make love to a bottle...
The first thing that I'd like to do...
Is to search the world over...
'Til I found a bottle...
With the exact same circumference as you...

The very first concert I took my kids to was Weird Al.

Phony Calls

The only problem was, the show up to that point had been so LOUD, I think a lot of the audience couldn't understand what he was singing in that, and so he didn't get as positive a reaction as I think was deserved. Maybe that's why, as far as I know, he never finished/released that one.

Some of Weird Al seems a bit risqué depending how old the kids were at the time. But overall I find his material works best as the parody music videos, especially when he manages to get some of the same people who were in the original "Beat It" video by Michael Jackson, for example.

Here is a clip of a radio show where he does it. He might not have gotten past the first lyric parody wise and Jim Croce might just be too unknown for much of his audience. I read that he has other tunes he pulls out at concerts but hasn't recorded. https://youtu.be/iLqZvPfF6lo

He did not do anything risqué at the concert we attended. I wrote him beforehand and told him I was coming.

Here's one from The Who, who I saw in 1982 at the old Pontiac Silverdome. This tune has been overused in recent years in GMC car ads. But it's still a GREAT song.

Eminence Front - The Who

This one rocks if I may say. Well kind of. It is inspired by Lemons rocks thread. This is the "I Wanna Rock" scene from the stage show "Rock of Ages". This is from a stage show not the Tom Cruise movie. I did not see the movie version or Twisted Sister live but I did see a stage production of the show. https://youtu.be/7t2E917Mgjo
