Discuss The Big Bang Theory

As we head into 2018 and are nearing a year since the old board shut down, I have to ask, why can't this board gain traction? Quite a few people have shown up on this board over time, some popping in for a short stint and then disappearing again. I know the format of this board is different, but it's really not that hard to figure out. Both are essentially just websites where you can talk about a show- what's so off-putting about this one?

Possible reasons that came to my mind include:

A)Some people from the old board honestly don't know about this board (though I think more know about it than we might suspect because it was mentioned more than once as the old board was shutting down)
B)People joined but left early on due to lack of traffic
C)Some people chose to mostly lurk
D)Some people got tired of message-boarding
E)The show is not as interesting as it used to be and there is not as much to discuss
F)There is no BLT or equivalent on this board. (The old board in and of itself was kind of like watching a TV show!)

The bottom line is, if people are leaving/only lurking because there is not enough traffic, then the only way to combat that is to start posting more (instead of leaving). Each person has to take the initiative to bolster this site.

After thinking on this a while, I think the problem is that I'm too nostalgic. As many of you know, I'm much like Sheldon in the "wanting homeostasis" department. I suppose I hoped that in posting this thread, those who are lurking or who only post occasionally would see it and be moved to post more. The thing is, if they wanted to- they already would be, and I shouldn't try to pressure them to.

Anyway, I look forward to talking about the show and all matter of other things with those who would like to and find it fun.

You're right, those people were staples too. And Imbd always seemed to have an influx of new people who stayed to become regulars. This board not so much.

I'm nostalgic about it too, even though I wasn't an everyday contributer.

I can agree on one thing, off 1st impressions film boards is a very close copy of imbd that satisfies my nostalgia.

I suppose if you say so. Perhaps we should go out on a safari and try to bring those posters back here.

B)People joined but left early on due to lack of traffic

That is a good reason. It is hard to get excited about a new place when it seems kind of slow and dull.

C)Some people chose to mostly lurk

Yes also a valid reason. When I first came here there were some new names that I haven't seen in a while like wonder2wonder and another or two that were fun to read when they made appearances.

D)Some people got tired of message-boarding

So tired. Yawn. bed zzz

E)The show is not as interesting as it used to be and there is not as much to discuss

This might be the main reason. As the show goes on and on it may get less interesting to talk about.

F)There is no BLT or equivalent on this board. (The old board in and of itself was kind of like watching a TV show!)

That was weird wan't it ! Especially in the last days of IMDB when that other guy came in as if to rescue us and regailed us with tales of BLTs other trolling and posting. Now I could take on the role of house troll. Bacon Lettuce and Troll ? Or like the 70s super group Blood Sweat and Trolls. Or maybe something else along those lines. Here let me give it a try: Kaley/Penny is a slut ! Duckface ! How is that for you.

Z, you're too sweet to be a troll, although you do have BLT's "go to" lines down pat. But you forgot to say you were very wealthy and had to go shopping! stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye

One thought I had, before letting this thread die, is if anyone sees former IMDb TBBT board regulars on other message boards (Film boards, imdb2, Reddit, etc.) tell them ( while chatting on those boards) about this one. For example, I think I saw Gubbio on one of those other sites right after IMDb shut down- maybe IMDb2? Anyway, since it's not like we can pick up the phone and call these people (who might not know about this board), that is really our only way of spreading the word.

Now I'll be quiet about this topic. zipper_mouth

I've seen rmontro on the Previously TV boards, that's a name I recognize. I think I've said this before, but Previously TV is a decent site, but it is heavily moderated. Most of the show boards over there start a thread called-"small talk" where you can post OT stuff, but the individual episode boards must stay on topic. And no personal snarking - you WILL be warned and posts WILL be deleted!

And don't be quiet Lemons - shout it from the rooftops! I wish this board was busier and more populous too!

I'm not sure I could be too happy on a heavily moderated board. While I try to avoid snark, I don't always behave well. (What would be the fun in that???) I come here for fun! We'll anyway, if you see any familiar names on that board and it wouldn't be something the moderators would be opposed to, pass the word along about this board!! slight_smile

Your thoughts?

It's the "Grammar Police" that killed Board traffic.

Posters just got tired of feeling as if someone is ALWAYS looking over their shoulders ready to pounce over even the tiniest error. I guess they found a place where their fellow posters donโ€™t treat them like piranhas, and get all-up-in-arms over even the most benign typo.

Of course, those of us with thicker skin can take the jabs; but maybe others rather thumb-their-nose at this site than voluntarily subject themselves to such nursery-school-like treatment.

Also, I'm not sure how other former posters would know we were there, unless they came here first and saw this thread. It's not so much the old format I miss, but the volume of traffic. I'm open to whatever the group as a whole wants to do, though.

I don't mind posting both places but I have to make an account. Most of the regulars I remember don't post anymore. Murph, PK Larkins, Woodmage , Youmightrabbityoumight-, etc. Those are the folks we need back.

The only people in that " Core" of posters who are still regulars are you, Mrs. Gothish and Erica.

FYI - PKLarkins passed away.

Not that I'd ever get "snarky"; but, is warning/deleting something that done after your fellows report you; or do the Mods have a snark-o-meter that keeps them on top of things?

If is the former--think Iโ€™d hate it. If it's the latter--think Iโ€™d hate it even more.

Coming up on our first anniversary here--since the BoardThatShallNotBeNamed kicked us to the curb.

Saving my "gushy" anniversary wishes until the exact date.

But, in the meantime...

Even though the bulk of the oldsters seemed to have landed elsewhere--glad to be among those who found their way here. relaxed

I think the mods step in when the subject really gets off track or someone is quite rude/vulgar - if you don't get too bad or veer too far off-course, then it would probably depend on if you got reported.

Sadly, it seems this board is slowing down even more, even though we have new episodes to discuss. I still enjoy checking in, but wish it would become more popular.
