As we head into 2018 and are nearing a year since the old board shut down, I have to ask, why can't this board gain traction? Quite a few people have shown up on this board over time, some popping in for a short stint and then disappearing again. I know the format of this board is different, but it's really not that hard to figure out. Both are essentially just websites where you can talk about a show- what's so off-putting about this one?
Possible reasons that came to my mind include:
A)Some people from the old board honestly don't know about this board (though I think more know about it than we might suspect because it was mentioned more than once as the old board was shutting down)
B)People joined but left early on due to lack of traffic
C)Some people chose to mostly lurk
D)Some people got tired of message-boarding
E)The show is not as interesting as it used to be and there is not as much to discuss
F)There is no BLT or equivalent on this board. (The old board in and of itself was kind of like watching a TV show!)
The bottom line is, if people are leaving/only lurking because there is not enough traffic, then the only way to combat that is to start posting more (instead of leaving). Each person has to take the initiative to bolster this site.

Yeah. Noticed same.
Even including the "drop-ins" (who obviously have not forgotten this Board) traffic is rather light.
ON A BRIGHTER NOTE: Just about got Year One under our belts...and on our way to Year Two...and it is STILL active! 👏

Absolutely! I enjoy dropping in to see what our group is talking about - sort of a little in crowd expounding on the topics of the day, lol.

I've seen a few past imdb-ers posting on other parts of this site. Why they haven't been paying attention to this area too, I have no idea. But that's on them.

Here are my responses:
"Some people from the old board honestly don't know about this board (though I think more know about it than we might suspect because it was mentioned more than once as the old board was shutting down)"
If you weren't around from Feb. 4th, 2017 - Feb. 20th, 2017, more than likely previous posters probably missed the boat. I know one person off of another site said they had been gone for almost a year and never knew the boards were disabled. They had to search Google for an alternative. The site owner (Col Needham) never informed anybody via e-mail. You either read the message on top of the board page or didn't.
"People joined but left early on due to lack of traffic"
This is one of my two reasons. I was so used to reading and replying to certain topics on IMDb that, compared to other sites nowadays, this one still kinda lacks numerous discussions, especially on other boards.
"Some people chose to mostly lurk"
I do from time to time. As you can see from my profile, I did register with TMDb in Feb. 2017, but this is my first response. For a year, I just kinda skimmed the TV discussions page.
"Some people got tired of message-boarding"
Possibly. Social media sites such as Facebook seem to have active comments on movies and such, even though it's not really my cup of tea.
"The show is not as interesting as it used to be and there is not as much to discuss"
Again, always a possibility. The show has been on for 10 years now. I'm more interested in what people have to say about Young Sheldon than TBBT.
"There is no BLT or equivalent on this board. (The old board in and of itself was kind of like watching a TV show!)"
I find myself posting on other sites such as Previously TV and Movie Chat. One has more active discussions per each episode (PTV), while the other archived old responses from IMDb (MC). That allows me to respond to several topics from years ago.
My final reason is that I just do not like the design of this site. I know you can change the accent color, but it doesn't seem to help. IMDb had a nice format that was easy on the eyes.

Thanks.
Interesting reading...food for thought.

"C)Some people chose to mostly lurk" - Often wonder if those are mostly the
"Like" people.
I say this because, as a regular, I think I've
someone's post maybe once…or twice. Not because I didn't like the multitude I’ve read, but saw/see no reason to
someone’s post AND ALSO comment on it.

Am I the only one who never looks at the "like" numbers?
If it's not a post/reply, I don't see it.

I wasn't that aware of the like icon until now. So I just liked the last two posts
to try it out

Well, it's not something I look for; but, it is something I cannot help but see when I reply to a post (or "Like" a post myself). It's pretty hard to miss then.
As for checking to see which post has gotten how many "Likes"--no, that's not something that had ever occurred to me.
When I "Like" a post it usually one that makes me
and really doesn't (I think) call for a written response.

Don't they still exist, on the IMDB Pro side, where you pay for membership? Seems like I saw that mentioned on the site once.

Couldn't help but think of your post when I saw the following on the "Support-General" Board...
"Is it possible to get a notification when a post is liked?
posted by Bunny Sprite on February 19, 2018 at 8:17PM
Hi all, not sure if this is the place to post this since I couldn't find a suggestion board.
Is it possible to receive a notification when our posts are liked, the way we receive one when people reply to the thread we posted in?
It's not the biggest deal, but there were times when I didn't realize a post of mine had been liked until a long while after, and it seemed like the time had passed to respond. It would be nice to get a heads up (and who liked the post) when it happens.
Thanks!"
Seems there are folks who not only look at, but also embrace the "like" numbers.
Hope this Board didn't "Bettlejuice" that notification idea
!

It's not email, and I don't know how far a history it shows, but when I hover/mouse-over the "like" I already see who did it.

Sounds like what "Bun" is after is a heads-up re: whether there is a reason to return to a post--and hover.
I know I've hit "Like" on a post long after the date it was posted. So, unless the poster is someone who checks everything they've posted..often; they may never know.
ON ANOTHER NOTE:
I’m keen on the response notification…but, not at all on the idea of a “Like” one.
A “Like” is just an opinion without a POV; so really don’t see the point. What, posters are going to track down their “Like” people and thank them for HAVING NOTHING TO SAY!?
If anyone sees an up-side to a "Like" notification feature...what am I missing?

But, in the meantime...
Even though the bulk of the oldsters seemed to have landed elsewhere--glad to be among those who found their way here.
