This particular scene did not bother me, as I think that was just part of Leonard's giddiness at being on the radio. He doesn't get to do things that make him feel special very often, and I think this was just him being nervous/excited.

Maybe after the debacle of Will Wheaton's podcast he developed an aversion to interviews. As for the interview here is an interesting article about whether physics is at a dead end
