He's done radio shows before, including the public radio Science Friday. He shouldn't have acted like he never heard his voice in the headphones before.

This particular scene did not bother me, as I think that was just part of Leonard's giddiness at being on the radio. He doesn't get to do things that make him feel special very often, and I think this was just him being nervous/excited.

Maybe after the debacle of Will Wheaton's podcast he developed an aversion to interviews. As for the interview here is an interesting article about whether physics is at a dead end
