In most cases live action sitcoms last between 7 and 9 seasons the ones who goes over that suffers because of it as they often start jumping the shark. Now, big bang is still a funny show but if you compare it to earlier seasons there are sign of fatigue. How much longer do you think it should last? I would hate the show to end in such a way as Two and a half men so sometime it is better for a show to know exactly how long they should last before they start going stale.

Yes, I am not trying to hate on the show, I still watch it but I do not find it as funny as it once was. Personally, I think it should end while it is still decent.

It's been on for a long time, and clearly it's better, more fresh days, like most shows that go this long, are in the past. But even as it is now, it's better than most of the other live action comedies on broadcast TV. So unlike others, I don't wish for it to 'end while on top'. Because what replaces it will likely not be as good as TBBT is right now. I just accept that after 10+ years, stories with the same characters start to feel old. Guess what? That's LIFE. I don't throw my old friends or my family away just because I can anticipate their responses and have known them for a long time. I enjoy TBBT once a week like I do other things I've had for a long time. This entire "throw it away - it's old" attitude escapes me sometimes. Newsflash - not everything new is better.

Although I have been one in the camp of wishing it would "go out on top", I can see your points and agree with what you're saying. I suppose that is an indication that I am torn on this topic.

The early seasons are almost a different show. I don't see it going on more than this season or one more. As long as no one gets replaced by Ashton Kuchner I am fine with it.

I really wish people people would stop using "jumping the shark" interchangeably with "losing my interest". Jumping the shark isn't a process, it's a single gimmick event or stunt that indicates a show no longer has direction or purpose. BBT hasn't done that and a show can't "start jumping the shark", it either jumped the shark once or it hasn't.
Anyway this was discussed ad naseum on the old boards. They show might feel old because you've grown so accostomed to these characters. I believe the way a long running show stays good is by reinventing itself and adapting to what works on television in the current climate . They did it before with Bernadette and Amy and they can do it again.
Maybe it's time to add new characters?

That leads into the whole "they already have too many characters for maybe less than 18 minutes of actual show per episode."

Which is true. This isn't Saturday Night Live.

I'll give you that one, but I was thinking the same thing about Friends, that I wouldn't find another sitcom that I liked. And several new ones came out, as well as a few one-hour hybrids, like Leverage, Royal Pains, Chuck, and Burn Notice. Hopefully, there will always be another great comedy or show to watch.

To quote 'The Oracle': “As long as it can.”
GENERAL COMMENT:
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but:
Just because I’m no longer sufficiently entertained by a show, doesn’t mean that millions of others don’t STILL see it as “hot stuff”. What about the fans who like the "new" stuff better than (or as much as) the "old"? For them the show could NOW seem MORE entertaining than before.
Can you just picture me calling up Chucky and going: Hi, Chucky, this is FKA; I think TBBT has been on long enough, it’s going stale, so it’s time to pull the plug?

All I want at this point is a reasonable good finale.
