Discuss The Big Bang Theory

Last night, Amy asked Bernie the following question:

"Has he (Howard) ever called you to tell you he found three peanuts in one shell, 'cause Sheldon has?"

If you can identify why this was ludicrous, you will get a prize. Or at least a hearty thanks.

Bonus question #1: Would you drink Romulan Ale?

Me: No. I am not a fan of anything edible/drinkable that is bright blue. Not ale, not sour patch kids, not the berries of crunch berries, not anything. But I do like blue tongues.

Bonus question #2: What is your favorite cocktail?

Mine: Amaretto sour

That's not a gaffe, she was just giving an example of how ridiculous Sheldon can be.

But gaffe is such a fun word! And how many times do you get to use a word that has a double f??

We know that the writers know; but do we know that Amy knows?

Good point! And I wondered to myself if those episodes where Howard had an allergic reaction were pre-Amy. Was there more than one allergic reaction episode? I can't remember now. Goodness I hope she never serves him a peanut butter pie unknowingly!

Peanuts are a legume not a nut.

If you live on the West Coast eggs are safe to eat raw if you prefer them that way, just make sure that they aren't cracked otherwise bacteria might work its way in.

I might sample a small glass. Here is a link to a site that has the 'Official' recipe for Romulan Ale:

http://geekinthecity.com/2009/05/07/official-romulan-ale-recipe/

As for fav cocktail, I generally drink red wine but I occasionally drink 'Snake Bites' which are Yukon Jack & lime juice or homemade Vodka slushies in the summer.

Legume is a fun word to say. Legume. Now I could be picky and say that Ale is technically a beer that uses a top fermenting yeast that requires a warmer temperature. But since this is a Romulan drink who knows. beers Snake Bites?! dizzy_face snake ? Wow !!

  1. I would

  2. My favorites: Tequila sunrise,Moscow Mule, Strawberry Hennessy, Ameretto Sour

Ameretto Sour is especially good with some salty snack on the side like honey roasted peanuts. My Sunday nights usually involve one of these drinks and Netflix.

There have been at least 3 or 4 episodes actually showing Howard's reaction to nuts, and a few more where it was just mentioned. Amy was definitely present for the episode involving the Game Of Thrones season premiere where the big sandwich with Mortadella was served.

And pecan pie would be just as bad.

I don't like pecan pie. Those crunchy things mess up the squooshy part.

Didn't Howard eat a nut on purpose so he could keep Leonard away from the apartment as Penny & crew could set up his 'first' birthday party? They were at the hospital but the nurse said he didn't look like he was having a reaction and Leonard kept saying "let's go home", so he ate a nut?

Yep! That's the time I remember.

That was one of the times I mentioned. There was also the sandwich with Mortadella ("The Viewing Party Combustion"), and seems like at least one more I can half-remember but not exactly place by episode.

And when did Mrs/Ms Davis move from HR to being the dean? Maybe I missed that.

She didn't. I thought they had made a joke about being called into the dean's office and Leonard said she wasn't the dean, she was the head of...something, not sure. But even at the college level, deans deal with students and not faculty, right?

Yeah that was part of it too. But it also seemed like something a dean or the president of the university would deal with, not the HR lady. Where is Dr Gablehauser when we need him???

Thanks.

Thought that after 7+ seasons--possibly; but, couldn't come up with a "hard" memory.

I'm stumped!

I would not drink Romulan Ale because I would not drink straight vodka. My favorite cocktail is a gin cooler - been a fan since I was first legal, but haven't had one in years since I usually stick to wine or beer. But I have a bottle of Hendrick's, some sparkling water and superfine sugar ready to go - just need to get some limes and I will be all set to make myself a first-rate cooler. tropical_drink

Edit: my neighbor made me a delicious Amaretto Sour once, without telling me that he used egg whites for the froth. It was yummy, but I do not do raw eggs, or raw anything, really. Luckily it was fine, but I was a bit worried, lol. egg

I'll keep mum on the Amy/Bernie answer for now. slight_smile

I looked up a gin cooler and it looked good- light and refreshing! I've never had one. It reminded me (in appearance) of a drink I saw on a menu the other night but did not end up trying- a mohito. Have you ever had one? I wonder if they're good.

As for the Amaretto Sours I've had, I don't remember any froth or egg whites- yikes! I hope not! I don't eat raw eggs either! I'll have to give the bartender a thorough questioning before my next one!

Amaretto Sour

It appears that you can make one with or without - here's a recipe that uses egg white - if your drink has no froth, then you should be ok, lol!

I've never had a mojito - my experience with mixed drinks is quite limited. Back in the day it was gin coolers, screwdrivers, or gin/vodka tonics. And nice catch on that peanut question!

Mojitos are okay if you like lime. Also the Caipirinha, which is like a Brazilian version but you have to use the Brazilian liquor Cachaca . Or rum if not available. If you like limes again.

This thread makes me want to go back to bartending, I love all these drinks. But I prefer the simple classics over cocktails.
