I had posted this on another site last year. But recently TBS was showing the last 3 years of TBBT in reruns. Most know they usually show a 2-3 hour block of TBBT episodes on many nights. Watching the last 3 years in that format (and I can't wait until they get this previous just finished season in the fall), the episodes were much more enjoyable. I really like watching TBBT on TBS or even more on DVD, as they flow better one right after the other. The 18 minutes of new material per week is always so anticipated, it many times feels like it falls flat.
Now, I'm not saying TBBT wasn't better in it's first few seasons. I think it's nearly universally believed that the first 6 years were the best. But watching them consecutively has really enhanced my enjoyment of the latter seasons.

Sadly, TBS is one of the worst offenders for cutting shows to run more ads.

I think that over time the characters gets more developed and there is more of a foundation for the drama of the later seasons. The basic premise of 4 nerds and a hot girl is built on and we get more emotion and background from them. Of course cutting the show time occasionally defeats whatever benefit we get from the expanded background over time.

Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on your POV, TBS doesn't need to cut much from the 18 minutes shows CBS has aired the last couple of seasons.

I guess that's one of the small blessings we're supposed to count.
