I'm really shattered by this one. The death of Tom Petty is a crusher. One of my all time favorites. So glad I got to see him and The Heartbreakers back in the early 90's. Always meant to see him again. Even thought this summer..."I'll catch him the next time he comes back". I really need to start going to more shows again. A lot of my favorites keep dying.
Here's a song from a recent phone commercial. I cut the link to start when the lyrics kick in, but you can listen to the entire thing at your leisure oh desire.
The tune struck a nerve with me when I saw the ad, and I was shocked to learn it was actually a Peggy Lee recording from 1949.
I know it's only a TUNE PER DAY, but I wanted to share this one too. Just heard it and really love this song. Though I'd change a couple notes here and there, but hey, I ain't the producer. I think both the song and the video are great.
Here's one from CHICAGO. It's a live version and shows just how talented this group was. Want to see some great musicians? GO SEE CHICAGO! This stuff is INCREDIBLE. Terry Kath was awesome on guitar.
I actually know a guitarist who had the opportunity to join this band, but turned it down because he didn't want to tour. He doesn't regret it, but I think I might have. I was NEVER good enough to even be remotely considered (I played trombone so I'd have been in the brass section)
Fun Fact: The opening card on the clip that reads "Scopitone Presents..." refers to the Scopitone machine which was a type of film jukebox that instead of playing records played film clips of pop songs. It was popular mostly in Europe in the early to mid 1960's but some made there way to the United States. I had to say this before Sheldon beat me to it. http://www.scopitonearchive.com/
A rainy and cold day. Blah. This song for some reason comes to mind. Maybe because I remember hearing it a lot when I was driving up to different colleges to see friends in this kind of crummy damp weather.
Sorry CQ - didn't really notice in the OP you were looking for "New" music.
I was going to make another OT - for album rock - a dying/dead genre, but at least now don't want to create another OT thread.
Here's today's tune from me. The lyrics
"One down, one to go"
and
"I can feel no sense of measure
No illusions as we take
Refuge in young man's pleasure
Breaking down the dreams we make
Real"
seem to be a good description of Hollywood lately.

Inspired by the council of Sheldon's but not so Sheldony. Basically a couple of videos with duplicates of the singers prancing about. Great songs too.
Kylie Minogue - Come into my world
Texas - Say what you want

Here is another. This is catchy until it becomes tedious and clever until it becomes stupid, anyways that is my take.
