Yes or No: Was it out of character for Leonard to buy Howard a prostitute (when they were in Vegas and Howard was depressed about Leslie Winkle)?
Leonard is the sensible, level-headed one. He's the straight man. Was this an odd decision for him? Or was this within the realm of Leonard's behavior?

I do not think it was odd. He wanted to do something nice for his friend.

A. Leonard knows Howard and what Howard likes and gave it to him, as did Esther Rosenblatt.
B. Behind the sensible, level-headed exterior of Leonard beats the heart of a gross douchebag.

I'll classify it under the "desperate times for desperate measures" category. Howard was losing it, threatening to open the minibar and eating the macadamia nuts. Plus, I don't think he'd do that for anyone but Howard, as he knows Howard's rather sordid past with the fair gender.
If he was actually a sleazeball, he would have gotten Mikalya for himself.

Leonard might not go to a prostitute himself, but he's shown that he will pretty much do anything (and anyone) but...

I think it would have more sense for Leonard to find him a high class escort off Craigslist rather then one who searches bars for clients.
An escort who actively searches bars for clients is probably not a good one.

Well, hang on. You can get a much better sense of the potential client face-to-face rather than over Craigslist. Plus, based on the way they're dressed or their purportment, you'll know how much you can charge them. Plus, I'm thinking the high-class escorts don't really show up on Craigslist.

If I remember the episode correctly, she didn't look like a 'hooker' (not to me anyway), she was tall with short brown hair and there was mention that she was Jewish (brisket was also mentioned)?

She pretended to be Jewish, because that's what they asked for. And it was a hotel/casino in Vegas, so not so much your random hooker-on-the-street.

I guess Leonard has shown that he will sleep with almost anyone (the older university benefactor being the biggest proof of that for me). Still, call me naïve or old-fashioned, but I felt like he crossed a line hiring a prostitute that even he wouldn't normally cross. I wonder if Sheldon would have stopped them, had he been there? He would have had some hilarious responses to their plan, no doubt!

Well, except Sheldon - at least real/original Sheldon - might have argued that hiring a prostitute is the logical way to "relieve tension" without emotional entanglement, etc.

Yes, that is indeed one possible direction our Sheldon could have gone in, but this is also the same guy who thinks that drinking caffeine is naughty. Ya never know.

Well, but caffeine is "taking in." And "taking in" something that, at least to Sheldon, "messes with his mind." For men, sex doesn't typically involve "taking in." Unless you're gay.
Put another way, Sheldon might advise the prostitute differently than he would advise Howard. And not just because Howard is (only) an engineer.

I believe the escorts who find clients online eventually do meet clients face to face but with a third party present or nearby for safety reasons. It's just seems highly unlikely to me that a high class escort looking for cream of the crop clients would roam regular bars looking without parsing them from a distance first .
I wouldn't know, I've never hired an escort or been one 😇but I can't imagine ones who know what they're doing and have any experience in that industry would stroll into bars looking for clients.
Just seems like putting yourself on a silver platter to be kidnapped or worse.

But for the purposes of a sitcom with a scene set in a Vegas casino it is fine. I don't think I would care to see Leonard take out his phone and call up an Uber-Hooker. Besides Mikala is probably well known by the establishment she was in.
Craiglist is good if your looking for an apartment, old sofa, or people who like to get peed on.
Not for the lovely Ms Esther Rosenblatt or me either. But with Leonard who knows?

Sounds like Sheldon. He tried matching Penny wih someone when she was addicted to gaming and he did the same with Amy and Zac. Although I don't know if he'd go as far as paying for it.
