Seems like they did that in the car ride with Adam West, bringing him to Sheldon's birthday party. Or at least the ones in the car with him did, but Sheldon wasn't with them then.

Question: As a child I was not into comic books or superheroes at all, but I did watch Adam West's Batman and later, the Hanna-Barbera Super Friends cartoon.

As someone who admittedly knows very little about the topic ( much to my son's chagrin), is it accurate to say that Adam West's Batman brought superheroes to the masses?

It probably did a lot for that, especially getting children interested when still young. But there was the earlier Superman TV series, and some movie serials too, for earlier generations. The single largest kick-start might have been the Superman movies with Christopher Reeve.
