I wondered if anyone had any theories about why the writers brought Isabella on the show briefly to date Raj. I can't remember now if it was 1 or 2 episodes, but I do remember the reaction to her being somewhat positive. I guess I could understand them quickly doing away with her character if there had been a negative outcry. I'm just trying to understand what the purpose was in bringing her on the show. I really liked her.

They do all kinds of throw-away stuff, and that was apparently just one more of them. Like Leonard supposedly taking Penny for granted - which I don't believe, and in fact she often complains more about the OPPOSITE! - just so they could have an episode about them not getting along and deciding to get a Relationship Agreement, which hasn't been mentioned since.

Did anyone get the sense that she was not originally meant to be a one-off character and then the writers back-tracked?

I don't know what they were thinking, but it is odd that they just completely abandoned her. Also Howard's brother - they devoted an entire episode to him, and we've seen or heard nothing from him since. Not even a mention in passing from Howard.

Yes! Both of those are quite vexing!! Especially when they are recycling some storylines, rather than filling out ones that have only been touched upon.

I forgot all about Howard's brother! And you're right, he's one where some follow-up would have made sense. There are certainly some one-off characters who were meant to be such, and where I was left satisfied that one episode was enough. Ramona actually would be an example of that for me. But with both Isabella, and even more so Howard's brother, it felt like the writers were starting a new storyline with them and then abruptly quit. I think I'm going to revise this thread's title to draw in more conversation about other one-off's if people would like.

Agree 100%! I'm wondering if maybe the writers were hesitant to get too far into those storylines, not knowing how many seasons they might have left. But now that we know we have two more for sure, perhaps they'll reintroduce Howard's brother. Maybe as a link to meeting his father.

I do wonder about this. Had it not been for the finale, we could have added Ramona to that list. Yvette the Vet was the one that disappointed me the most that we haven't seen back.
I agree I'd like to see them bring back some of the characters they haven't yet. Ramona worked to the degree it advanced a plotline.
BTW, anybody else find it amusing L/P's parents are together on another CBS sitcom (Superior Donuts)?

Haha Murph, that didn't even dawn on me! Speaking of that, have you watched the show? I haven't yet and was wondering if it was worth a look.

Yes, Yvette is another perfect example of a one-off where the writers made it look like they were starting up a new storyline. If she hadn't given Raj her phone number I might say otherwise.
