So when the blonde kissed Sheldon, how awesome would it have been for him to respond by kissing her right back! And then have the show end that way with him kissing her.

Instead they chose a very typical, boring, lame ending.

Cool story, bro.

At least that might have been a more effective "cliffhanger" if that's what they were really going for.

Yikes! Well, that certainly would have been something that no one was expecting. But I honestly did not see the the proposal coming. I knew he was going to see Amy, but I had no idea what he was going to do or say once he got there.

They need to mix it up a bit and have some spicey, lively plots instead of having all the guys get hitched.

A love triangle would be way more fun.

Well I could support something like that, esp since they have 2 seasons now, for sure, to play around with some things. But as long as Ramona doesn't go back to her ultra-controlling ways, it's hard to figure anyone claiming that Amy would be a better match for Sheldon than Ramona is. Just for one thing, Ramona is also a physicist. Sheldon still dismisses Amy's work as being about "grey, squishy stuff."

Amy makes a lot of noise about how much work she's put into making Sheldon "a functioning boyfriend" to use her term from a recent episode. But that doesn't mean he's become a suitable boyfriend FOR HER, let alone a good prospect as a husband. I would say that she's wasted her time, because to the extent (debatable) she might have actually made him a "functioning boyfriend" for SOMEONE, he still isn't really right FOR HER, and I would say he never was.

Maybe she thought, as many women do, that she could mold him according to her wants/needs, but that rarely works out for NORMAL men and was even less likely for Sheldon. So that could mean that whoever Sheldon really wound up with as a suitable partner, owes her thanks for making Sheldon a little more normal, and capable of being a partner for whoever he's really compatible with. But I don't think that person is Amy.

That would have been so far out of character for him, I couldn't see it happening.

I've been bombarded with things far out of character for Sheldon already including developing feelings for Amy, having "coitus", and then the deep rooted emotional bonds he has for her. The Sheldon of the first 8 or 9 seasons seems like a totally different person by comparison.

So hence, let's continue with the out of character developments.

Well, that's one way of looking at it. But for myself, I don't really think Sheldon has changed much since Episode One. Whenever they need him to do something normal for a few seconds, he does. But it's just a script gimmick. As soon as that joke is finished, it's like he's back to the very start. For example, he says he "loves" Amy etc, but the work she does continues to be dismissed by him, and he continued to use her for transportation even after getting his own driver's license...

I agree largely with you, and that for everything besides his emotional feelings for Amy, everything else is the same, your examples illustrate that very well.

But again, more recently, and especially in the last season, as it relates strictly to the asexual attitude and the total disinterest in females we saw from Sheldon constantly, that has now been radically changed. And replaced with the now emotionally female dependent Sheldon.

Totally bogus character development.

Well, in a way. But if Sheldon actually had sexual interests or desires, he wouldn't just perform coitus on Amy on an annual basis because that's basically the minimum he could get away with.

They already changed that rule in one of the later episodes, so apparently that restriction is no longer the case either.

I wouldn't be surprised to find out that they had considered your alternate ending. But, decided to go with the unexpected...don't think anyone (many) saw The Proposal coming.

The fact that you mentioned kissing her right back indicates that it was something that was, unlike The Proposal, apt to pop into folks head as a "what if". I know it's what occurred to me during The Kiss.

But, The Proposal...it COMPLETELY caught me out!

I would say it WAS obvious, except they cheated: Sheldon went directly from his office to the airport. They didn't show him go home to get the ring from the wall safe, or even get it out of his desk drawer in his office. The implication being that he has the ring in his pants pocket all the time, which I don't believe for a second.

If they showed him retrieving the ring, it would've tipped everyone off about what was about to happen. Even though you and others suspected he was going to propose, many of us did not see it coming. Kudos to the writers for still being able to pull rabbits out of hats 10 seasons in!

I still consider it a cheat, since they showed him leaving the university in a cab, going to the airport, watching SpongeBob on the plane, landing, taking another cab to Princeton... they had plenty of time to show him stopping off at home. But they didn't.

Actually though I figured he was going there to propose because he didn't just call her or Skype. Amy probably had some advance notice too, since it would have taken several hours for Sheldon to get there, and Leonard and others would have realized Sheldon left the university around lunch-time etc., even if Ramona didn't tell them anything.

It only took about a minute on the show but in reality, with check-in etc it would have taken at least 7 hours, I'd guess. For a non-stop flight, IF one was available that quickly. Them not seeing Sheldon for 7 hours would certainly have gotten people wondering. They would have called Sheldon too and he might have told them what he was doing or at least where he was going. Or, since they've mentioned in the past that they can track his phone when he gets "lost," they could have seen he was traveling to New Jersey.
