I want to like the season 8 finale. I really did.

There was sunshine. There seems to be peace. Negan's people surrenders, knelt, and witnessed their new leader, Rick, take the high road, even against the will of some of his own people (more on that claptrap momentarily).

Aaron brought Oceanside to help Tara and those who held back. Maggie even (finally) accepted the captives at Hilltop. There may even be a future with our group for Jadi...I'm sorry, Anne.

Geez, is it possible, in any way, shape or form, that Eugene has redeemed himself? (I've longed to see him get killed for many seasons, but sabotaging the bullets may have saved our group altogether. I've got to concede that).

I feel for Dwight. I really do. But he proved himself, to me, at least. Daryl banished him, but methinks that should bode well for our group down the road, as it did when Carol was put out, to return when they really needed a hand at Terminus.

Rick? I get it. I see what he's trying to do. He is not Negan. Our group is not the Saviors. For all those who began to argue that Rick was worse than Negan, this should put that balderdash to rest right quick.

So, yeah, all that was fine...until the unholy trinity of Maggie, Jesus and Daryl. WTF was that?

How, in the name of everything we've seen over the last eight seasons, is Daryl even considering going against Rick and Michonne?

Jesus? He's been this pacifist, right up to this very episode in working on Morgan. All of a sudden, he's ready to join this clandestine subgroup? I am so tired of this lazy two-way, double-agent, whom can you trust, inside traitor angle. It isn't even plausible anymore.

Which brings me to Maggie. I suspect this is simply to get ready to write her off the show. Suzanne Sommers paid the price for demanding more money in Three's Company, and it appears they're going to Chrissy Laura Cohon here too. Too bad, I liked Maggie. But the crappy writing of her character in this last episode undermines everything we've known about her since we met her back on the farm. It just makes no sense otherwise.

I wonder if anyone will bother to tune in for season 9? Or if they just up and cancel the show here and now and that's just the end of it.
