There have been lots of scenes like that, where people had a chance to do serious damage to Negan, but held back. Rick did it several episodes back when he and Negan fought in that house. He also had that bat in his hands, and Negan was lying under him on the floor. What did Rick do? Did he swing for the fences? Did he hit Negan the way that Negan hit Glenn and Abraham? Nope. Rick sort of bunted him in the face with the handle end, slightly stunning Negan for a few seconds. But Negan wasn't terminally wounded the way Glenn was. He quickly recovered and punched Rick in the nuts. That was a big missed opportunity. And when Carl stowed away in the back of that truck so he could kill Negan, they opened the door and Carl immediately shot one of Negan's men. Negan was standing there, a few yards away. It would have been so simple to shoot him then as well. But what did Carl do? He started talking to Negan.
"When you gotta shoot, shoot. Don't talk." Carl talked, until Negan's men circled around and disarmed him.

That is how the writers want this to go. They are milking the Negan story for all they can get out of it. But I am getting sick of listening to people talk about how much they want to kill Negan, and then making half hearted efforts and stupid mistakes then they get the chance.

That's a good, appropriate quote from Tuco of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly there. Oh don't forget when the anti-Negan forces took it to the Sanctuary with their metal-plated vehicles, and Rick shot at Negan as if Negan was his lady!!!

Yeah, Negan stood out there in the open, and NOBODY took a shot at him. They had to TALK to him. Yeah that's gonna get him. Tell him what you think of him, tell him again how badly you want to kill him, tell him again that you're really, really gonna kill him good. And then shoot a few of his men instead. When Rick went after Negan and t-boned his car, he took that AK and fired on full auto at the bottom of his car! Why do they fire at cover, and on full auto? Then they toss the weapon cause, damn, they're out of ammo, again.

Well now Simon is gone and Dwight must feel really stupid that he turned him in to Negan right before those girls came back and exposed him as a traitor to the saviors. Of course he knew Simon was planning on wiping out the whole group.
Negan sure is a crafty fellow, giving Dwight those plans so he would send them to Rick. Now though I am wondering whether Rick will fall for it or not. Rick is pretty smart too, and he has had enough experience with Negan that he ought to suspect that those plans are bogus. Daryl doesn't trust Dwight so he will urge caution. The season finale should be interesting I think. But I wonder whether they will finally kill Negan or whether he will escape his end....again. Right now I am slightly betting that the writers make this another indecisive battle with Negan getting away and continuing to cause trouble in the next season. This would be a good time to end Negan, but the way things have been going I just don't think they are ready to do it yet.

Dont get your hopes up. Negan's gonna survivor no matter what. Probably thru some terribly written plot-armor way.

I just hope they don't have them follow Carl's wishes and become friends. That would be just unbelievable. The idea that they could put all those killings behind them would be absurd.

Yeah, they have made the show only about the war between Negan and Rick and company. I think the ratings have been higher since they did that so the chances are not good that they will kill him off soon.
The preview shows Rick and his people crossing the top of a small hill firing weapons, like that is a cliffhanger. How long are they going to try to tease us with the idea of revenge against Negan?

It has become a joke. I just about horse-laugh every time they show Rick talking about killing Negan now.

(UPDATE: I just checked and the ratings dropped down some in the last season. Perhaps other viewers have grown tired of them whipping this dead horse.)

Yep totally agree with everything you said. I just made a similar comment on another thread before seeing this. I don't think the Whisperers will be any better (if they do that storyline) considering how badly they've done Negan and the Governor.

I would LOVE for the finale kill off Negan. He has surely overstayed his welcome. But AMC has paid JDM alot of money so I don't think he's going away anytime soon. I believe they are grooming him to be the lead when Andrew leaves.
