Rick and Morgan just slaughtered a bunch of Negan's men for no reason, with many of them wanting to join Rick's side. In fact this is the second time because he killed a bunch of Negan's men at the outpost, provoking Negan in the first place. Now Negan is bad, however he views people as a resource and when he has to kill, it is only a couple of people to make a point to get the others in line. Rick and Morgan have gone off the deep end with their killing surpassing Negan in their brutality, in fact they are making Negan seem rationale in his purpose.

You're just wrong.

Rick is not more brutal than Negan. He doesn't torture people with hot irons, throw people alive into fires, force women into prostitution, just to name a few examples. I do agree that Rick, and especially Morgan, are currently off the deep end. Negan is acting more rational. I wonder what he has planned for Simon, and if he is the only one who will be made to pay for the garbage patch massacre.

It was hard to watch those men die...especially after Rick giving his word. The only one that I believe needed to die was the one that killed the kids brother.

Nevertheless, Rick IS NOT worse than Negan in my opinion...not by a long shot.

Negan is a dictator who wants full control by any means necessary. That's fucked up!

That is not Rick.

I agree, hard to watch, but he had no guarantee they would not take him to the Sanctuary.

@jonnieblack

I think that it was more likely that they went back with him to the Hilltop than them taking him and Morgan to the sanctuary. Especially after that speech from Simon.

Yes, more likely but no guarantee. If I'm Rick I do the same thing.

I see you're having some trust issues. But I feel you.

Now, we'll never know.

You're ignoring the principal difference between Rick and his gang and Negan. Negan is a brutal dictator who rules by terror. Despite his "newspeak" nonsense, calling himself a savior instead of a dictator, describing forced prostitution as putting people 'on the right path', etc. he is a brutal terrorist, no different to people like Stalin, Hitler, and other dictators. He is willing to let people live if they submit to slavery or blind obedience. And he kills those who refuse to submit to him. Rick and his gang are willing to live in peace with others who will respect their rights. He is willing to work out deals, trade with them when such deals benefit both groups. But Negan's group has brutalized and slaughtered many people. They wiped out the garbage people completely. And they attacked the Hilltop, attempting to wipe them out and turn them to walkers. Negan's group is devious and dangerous. They had just been discussing whether to kill Rick and Morgan or to turn them over to Negan. They had to go.

Rick doesn't know that Negan didn't order the garbage people genocide. Negan did order his people to turn the Hilltop people into walkers. You're right that Negan is rational, not crazy. But his reasoning is evil. He is a dictator who uses terrorism to control people. He uses cruel and unusual punishments of his own followers to terrorize them into following him.

Rick and Morgan know all of this. That they are acting brutally now in return actually makes sense. Negan's people cannot be trusted. There is no way to know if any of them would really change sides or whether it would simply be another tactical move to gain advantage so they can kill them. Had I been through what they have been through I wouldn't trust them either. They have been fighting and slaughtering Rick's people up to now.
The analogy I think of is WWII. We had to destroy the power base which supported Hitler's ability to wage war. Rick and Morgan are wiping out the aggressors in order that: -they can no longer kill Rick's people and -Negan is more and more isolated.

I agree that the writers are showing Rick as becoming crazed and unhinged quite a bit. He is now driven by the grief, the collective grief of all those killed by the Negan group. The writers are also showing Negan as a "reasonable man". They want to humanize the dictator. But how can anyone consider this man to be reasonable? His idea of being reasonable is to come into your camp and brutally murder people, and then forcibly enslave the rest. I don't care how much they humanize him or his supporters.

Ditto.

Excellent post. You are right on all counts.
