Not back as in first three seasons back, but back as in "I can't wait to see..." on a few story lines.
I can't wait to see:
what happens to Simon
what Jadis is going to do next
how Carl's letter, what Simon did to the Scavengers, and Jadis' response might influence how Rick and Negan interact
how Daryl, Maggie, Carol, Morgan and King Ezekiel re-engage the plot line
This latest episode is probably the most compelling, without gimmickry or fake-outs, in longer than I can remember.

I am old enough to remember AMC ... LOL. I'm not sure what channel has them now, but I have found a few!
REPLY: TCM has them (Turner Classic Movies). Though I understand he recently sold off his share of the Warner Brothers collection, but primarily for retail use. He still has the rights to air them.
He has everything, the Universal monster movies, MGM, 20th Century... no one else can air them except films from that era that are in public domain.

Much as I'd love for Negan's end to come soon, I think he is around for the long haul. It is grindingly obvious that Carl's death is set up to be the bridge between Rick and Negan. I agree that Carl's death genuinely affected Negan. He wanted Carl for his surrogate son.
There are some interesting threads dangling now, Simon's and Jadis's in particular. (Never thought I'd have anything good to say about Jadis). Lets hope the writers don't botch them beyond all credibility.
Old Newbies's post about season 6, the miscast of JDM as Negan, the botched handling of Glenn's death, were all right on the nose. I wonder if the Negan character and storyline just doesn't translate to TV, with the more diverse viewership than the graphic novels, where Negan is very popular.

Popular as in readers understand/appreciate/like him?
Yes, good point about the more diverse/casual TV viewer not being as "hardcore" as people who actually read the comics.

Just anecdotal evidence, but comic readers seem to really love the Negan character and storyline. I can't compare because I am just now getting to Negan's intro in the comics.

I really have to search the channel and DVR things I think I will like. I work for a woman and we have access to TV - it's great because she LOVES all of the old stuff. I have been shocked at some of the content - lol - in my mind, it was always more puritan!

In 1935 Hollywood, under duress from government watchdogs of the time, created The Hays Office which put in the strict "puritan" rules and do's and don't that affected movies into the 1960's.. Prior to 1935 films had racier content (out right sex and nudity was still not a thing but suggestive talk and partial nudity did happen). There is a Facebook page dedicated to "Pre-Code Hollywood". Not very informative as it shows only pictures of films and not much history. You can Google about Pre-Code Hollywood and fine more about the how the why and what went on, etc.

Thanks for the Facebook page! The woman I work with LOVES all of the oldies (I like LOL) so she always cues me in on who, where, what and when - It is all very interesting.
