The current state of the show is probably best exemplified by the stand off with Negan. The moment he stepped out of the bunker with his "lieutenants" was the moment Rick should have shot him dead. Then when Rick fires at him with an automatic machine gun... he misses! A dead eye shot with walkers and all else and he freakin misses! Be the same as if Daryl after hitting that motor bike tire from 100 yards misses a target from 10 feet.
This is a microcosm of the show because it is 100% ridicules. Against all logic Negan is to be kept alive and, if going by the comic, someday become the prisoner of Rick and Co. Well miraculous escapes and illogical actions work well in the comic realm (yes even in the now more sophisticated ones) but they do not work on TV or in films that are3 supposed to have some root in reality. Even with a priest armed to the teeth stuck in a trailer with Negan, who has only his baseball bat, we're supposed to believe he has the upper hand! Gabriel cold riddle him with bullets at any moment!!
The Governor was never so lucky. His downhill spiral was downhill with no snappy dialog, jokes, or any such nonsense to save him. And the final battle between him and his new army of followers was exactly as it should have been... bloody, shocking, and there-but-for-the-Grace-of-God our heroes survived. This confrontation and this villain are foolishness.
What as once a highlight of my TV enjoyment is now a habit. Nothing more.

You should put a spoiler alert on the Comics part. But I do agree on Negan. He got plot armor. Did father Gabriel run out of bullets?

Spoiler alert? Like the comics are secret or something.

I think this show should do a major departure from the comics and kill off Negan during or after the war. The TV adaptation of Negan is a total fail, IMO.

I think back to when they showed Morgan welding/putting together that jail cell... it's for Negan, I think.

Absolutely agree. The thing that made previous seasons watchable was believability . The entire premiere ep seemed to prop up Jeffrey Dean Morgan. It seems the showrunners are sooooo gaga over him, they are putting the main stars out to pasture. This is RICK'S DAMN STORY!

Comic spoiler alert is a polite thing to do.Not everyone is caught up.

This is a forum about the show not the comics. Stick a potato in your ear.

My apologies for not spoiler warning the comic. I just heard this on another forum so I am not reader of the comics. I also heard a bunch of other stuff in the past that never happened! So who knows.

I agree also. They continued the Negan worship on Talking Dead. He got introduced last, by himself (others were introduced in groups), like he is the star of the show/fan favorite. The producers and Hardwick may be salivating over Negan, but that is not the sense I get from the different boards that I check. Another head scratcher was Hardwick calling Jadis a fan favorite. AYFKM? I don't know anyone who likes Jadis, most want to see her die a miserable death. I am not done with TWD but I think I'm done with Talking Dead.

Pollyanna McIntosh is an attractive woman, but I couldn't care less about the character she plays....

That countdown by Rick and then having him just blast his machine gun in the general direction of Negan when he got to seven was total BS. It’s like Rick decided to F it all up. That was a really lame way the writers came up with to save Negan. And then after running inside with his henchman, he and he alone is inexplicably back outside on his own and trapped in a mobile office with Gabriel. It’s bad writing period.

JDM is an established movie and TV actor. Getting him for Negan was a big deal, I assume. So therefore the producers are going to highlight him, keep him alive, etc. It would not surprise me if he got more money per ep than anyone else.

@Oldnewbie I guess you are right about JDM. He is the biggest name in the cast.
