محادثة The Walking Dead

Now that there's approximately 6 months until the Season 8 premiere, what are your expectations for the show?

In its current state, I feel The Walking Dead relies too much on putting all significant events in the season premiere, midseason finale/premiere, and season finale. They seriously need to pick up the pacing (This does not mean I want non-stop action and zombie-killing), most of the episodes did nothing to advance the plot, they moved at a snails pace. I honestly want the seasons to be much shorter, it tightens up the pacing and plot.

The Season 7 finale felt reminiscent of the Season 3 finale: An underwhelming battle that was just a teaser for the actual battle to come. Knowing that there will be an "all-out" war between the communities in Season 8, I want the battle to take place early on in the season. The battle should take place at the Saviors' compound.

For character deaths, I'm predicting Carol will be the one to die, followed by Rosita or Eugene.

Walkers have no longer been a threat to our survivors. But, after the war between the communities, it would be the perfect opportunity to introduce The Whisperers.

Carol's death would be great!! grinning If Rosita dies, it's like there's no eye candy left on the show. What a drag that'd be. However, she's slippin' into darkness to quote the War song, so it may simply be a matter of time.

I honestly do not like the direction they took with Carol since Season 6. She was a complete bad-ass in Season 5, when she basically saved everyone in Sanctuary and stood up to and threatened Pete. But ever since Morgan's been in Alexandria, she reverted back to her cowardly ways and felt guilty about the people she's killed. Just didn't make any sense at all. But, what we saw in the second half of Season 7, she's coming back to her bad-ass, confident self. She deserves to die a heroic death, one that has her sacrifice herself for Rick and company.

I wanted Glenn to have a heroic death, he has been there since Season 1. Didn't feel his death had any emotional impact, it was just a gore-fest for the sake of it.

Like you, I don't want non-stop action, I would prefer if each episode continued into the next.

Quit with the episodes dealing with a single character's journey, because none of them have worked, or has added anything interesting about any of the characters.

Improve the dialogue/interactions between the characters. If you can't come up with a backstory or character arc for a character, at least give them a personality and let them shine.

Just kill Daryl, he adds nothing, the character has run its course. Are there even fans of Daryl still? He literally has just been there the past several seasons. I can't even understand him when he talks lol.

Get better directors, I've never noticed this in a show, but the walking dead looks so stale and every episode looks the same. I don't know what it is, but it looks so plain. Get more creative with your camera work.

Make Negan intimidating and have him kill another main character. After the deaths in the premiere, Negan ceased to be an imposing threat, I know he's goofy and over the top in the comic, but it's not working for me, it actually annoys me that the group and so many other communities are under the thumb of this guy who yells stuff like "Easy, peasy, lemon squeezy." How have his own people not turned on him yet?

Don't try and make each character's death this over the top mushy goodbye episode. Have characters die and that's just it, they're dead. We don't need these in your face flashback sequences, melodramatic dialogues and dream sequences that show the character finding peace. It wasn't effective in the past, it's not effective now. Nobody cares enough about the B-rate characters to have their final episode be a bunch of mushy crap, just to send them off.

Stop with the fake-outs. We know who the untouchable characters are, we know you don't have the scrotum to kill them, so stop setting them up.

Do not try humour. I find the walking dead's humour cringe-inducing and usually poorly placed. There will be a relatively "dark" episode, which is immediately followed by a goofy comedy episode, that's neither humorous or witty, just bad.

So, basically get new writers and directors.

Give as a back story on Negan and how he created such a big empire that did not even know about Alexandria's existence.

Send Daryl out to get supplies. He stumbles upon an isolated barber shop. Gets a shave and haircut from the proprietor. When he returns, no one recognizes him.

Cancellation.

All valid points. Love the constructive criticism, had you posted this on The Walking Dead Facebook page, you'd get attacked by all the rabid fanboys spewing out "Don't like, don't watch!", "You just want non-stop action!", "Slower episodes are for character development!", etc.

  1. I don't want non-stop action, I want each episode to be cohesive and lead directly to the next one.
  2. Character-centric episodes are nothing but filler (ex. Tara and discovering the Oceanside community) and add no value to the overall plot
  3. The dialogue is honestly not that impressive. To be honest, the characters are quite static and their personalities are rather dull.
  4. Daryl is too precious in the eyes of AMC. He's the one all the fanboys/fangirls drool over, it is very annoying. He really hasn't done much at all for quite a while, I agree that it's time for him to go. But, AMC doesn't have the nutsack to kill him off, so looks like we will be stuck with Daryl until the end.
  5. This is a major reason why Breaking Bad is a far superior show. The camera work is spectacular, the visuals are beyond stunning. The Walking Dead? Seems very stale and unimaginative.
  6. I agree about Negan. He seemed to be an intimidating figure in his initial appearance and when he killed both Abraham and Glenn. However, ever since then, his intimidating status kept declining and he became more over-the-top in his mannerisms. How anyone can take him seriously and be swayed to obey his commands is beyond me.
  7. I was rolling my eyes the entire time with Sasha's flashbacks and visions of Abraham. They tried way too hard to make us care for Sasha, all for her to die by ingesting a cyanide pill. They did the same exact crap with Tyreese, tried to make his final moments so sappy and melodramatic. They need to just stop with this kind of crap.
  8. Agree. The fake-outs are annoying and makes me feel that the showrunners think we're idiots and we'll fall for it. Like when they faked Glenn's death in the 6th season, then like 4 episodes later, revealed how he escaped death.
  9. Humor is not The Walking Dead's strong point, and I also feel it's cringe-worthy and out-of-place. I wouldn't mind if the humor stayed, just that it should fit where appropriate.

I want way more pyro like when Carol blew up Terminus with the propane/skyrocket or Daryl taking out the Saviors with the rpg (but needs to be way more realistic) or like in the Land of the Dead where they used fireworks to control dead traffic, etc. Show needs waaaaay more pyro, simply not enough pyro on this show. I want pyro. And lots of it.

Great comments by bulletproof and filmfan. My two cents:

  1. Get going FAST with the all out war. Have some real casualties that will have us crying like babies. Daryl and Morgan would be my choices, but to each their own. Whatever makes you cry!
  2. Agree with the comments about the humor on this show. It succeeds best when it is deadly serious. More intensity like the butchering trough at Terminus.
  3. An infusion of a couple of major new characters for fans to really care about.
  4. As almost all who comment here have suggested, pick up the pace of the storytelling.

About #2, man...this show was so much more efficient and effective around the Terminus days. It's hard to believe I'm watching the same show.

I couldn't agree more. The Negan's arc and season 7 are complete failures and I lost all sort of excitement each Monday - I'm in the UK. I'm not a comic reader but I know there's a time jump: they should go there by s8b. The show has become too repetitive, they have to deviate from the comic, focus on rebuilding civilization, look for other non hostile groups, etc. I'm not a fan of another villain, another fight against a group. They have to develop the new characters properly too, I'm disappointed we saw Jesus so little.

I used to be a fan girl of Daryl - even if I'm 46, lol - but I'm not anymore. He has become useless - and not very sexy in season 7 with his eyes all swollen and a large gain of weight.

Jesus could be a perfect replacement.

I would like to see more development for Jesus and Heath. They could be fan faves if given the chance.

Well, they're both in the comicbook to this very day, so I don't see why not

The actor who plays Heath is getting to be a big star in Hollywood, and was cast as the lead of 24 Legacy. I don't think he's coming back. And the card Tara found in the last episode Heath was in seemed to hint that he had fallen victim to the Whisperers (the next group of villains).

Aren't we a ways out from the Whisperers? I am not that far in the comics but I am aware of the basic storyline.
