The only thing the show had going for it, the glorious ripping and tearing of flesh, the heads bashed in, the eyeballs poking out... The season 7 opener was a massive tease. I'm of the mind that it was the best hour of television that the show has ever put out into the world. It was in-fucking-tense. The creative team were saying it was an indication of the dark territory TWD was heading into... and now what do we have? A relatively bloodless finale. It felt massively watered down. The grue was not there. The zombies have taken a backseat. It barely feels like a horror show anymore. It's like a soap opera with guns and an occasional zombie in the background.

I was always defensive of the show, because no matter how stupid it got, it served as an incredible showcase of horrific special effects... now that people complained, it's just... a family show. I guess that's what the mainstream audience wanted. I'm really disappointed. The same thing happened to Game of Thrones - as soon as it became popular, it was watered down, but no where near as much as The Walking Dead has been in only one season. The show has lost its teeth.

At least Ash Vs Evil Dead is carrying the torch...
