That was the best episode in a long time!!! They really pulled out all the shots!!! I was holding my breath thinking that Daryl was going to get shot when he was on top of whatever he was standing on at the end, while looking around!!!

Well, Negan would have introduced Carl to Lucille first and while doing so, Rick would have been all over him. So...in the end, what Rick said, is exactly what he needed to say in that moment.

Let me play Devil's Advocate for a moment.
Maybe the writers figured that we would already have guessed that Rick knew reinforcements were going to save him in the nick of time so that's why Rick seemingly was willing to sacrifice his son Carl to the cause.

Well maybe, maybe not - there's every chance he'd have been shot before reaching Negan in that scenario.
I was just meaning at the point Negan was right in his face, with both him and Carl facing the chop, the bravado speach doesn't stack up (outside obviously being a crowd pleaser) if he really thought it was curtains - his desperate act when he chomped into that dude's neck was more on the money...

In that other scene, going for the bite made more sense.
Don't forget that Rick knew that Hilltop would show up. As for the Kingdom joining in...that was a wild card.
Sometimes, you have to wait for a sign or the right moment.
I get that we don't agree and I'm cool with that. No worries.

Yeah, that's true - I was wondering whether it's even possible Rick saw them approaching (including the Kingdomers)? I'd need to rewatch to see if there was anything subtle - there certainly wasn't a Return of the Jedi style sail barge moment with them all winking at each other in advance... Actually, I think I might have liked that - cheesy as it would have been!
Yeah, no worries 👍I've no requirement for anyone to have the same opinion as me, just glad we've still got a forum here to discuss our thoughts...

This thread has been alive for far too long. I think we as a consensus agree, except for the OP who may ave been watching another show, that the finale was a let down, bordering on awful. It was shot on the cheap and looked it. AMC is proving it can feed it's audience poop and it will still tune in. Grated we who still watch are proving that to them; or rather also enabling them, so we are the problem. If we en mass stopped watching or did not tune in to the next season premier out of protest maybe they'd take the hint. Or not. They've made their money.

I guess you're entitled to your opinion.

I agree but I for one will not be watching next season. You can only push me so far. But there are people who need very little substance to keep them interested in a story. This is usually people who have not read many books or seen many movies so a lot of the blasé stuff is passable to them. I sometimes wish I was of that ilk but I am confident that creative people still exist and will come up with interesting stories. However, TWD writers are NOT those people.

For me, it's more that I've come so far and invested too much time in it to turn away now and not wonder what's happening next. I'll still remain critical where it deserves to be (as I have been about this season) but at least I can skip the boring bits in the name of efficiency.

Movie Nazi obviously has a more refined TV-watching palate than the rest of us yokels, but he's got a point. The producers don't seem to be putting the effort into the episodes lately, and it does seem like they are trying to save money and drag episodes out to fill the hours. Honestly I expect characters to glance at their watches half-way through some of these interminable heart-to-hearts. But you're right too. We're all like Soap Opera aficionados, so invested in the Characters that we'd watch them if they did improv in someone's garage. Seems to be why the producers are so loath to kill off major characters. I'll bet most of us are one "If they kill of-----. I'm out of here", from bailing for good.

I don't really mind who gets killed off. I just want to see a story in motion, at a reasonable pace.

You don't kid yourself. The show has no redeeming qualities and it was a chore to complete even this season. Why put myself through that mess again? You may see me here next year talking about the season I saw on Netflix though.

Refined? Not at all. I just expect shit to happen in the stories told to me. If shit don't happen then I get bored and I move the fuck on. How's that for "refined" ?

Like I said, see you next season.
If I can't stand a show, I simply don't watch...period!
