I know the bad haircut was "her idea"

Near the end of last season, when Lauren Cohen was getting a lot of shit for that awful haircut, the defense was that it was her idea; aka it's fine because she, as an actress, wanted to stay true to the comic. I put it in quotation marks because I personally think that's bs, but I'm not on the most watched tv show in the world, so that's her deal entirely. And I don't know how true that statement was.

Also, I feel like I may have come across as shallow and I don't mean that to be the case. I think she is a beautiful person, BUT 1) that haircut is just not flattering and 2) I was really blown away at how old she looked in that episode. She had more lines on her face than Daryl. It didn't look to me as though they were exaggerated with makeup, but she has looked kinda rough all season, that episode being the worst.

Anyway, I was curious what other people thought re: all that.

Maggie has better things to do in the zombie apocalypse than worry that her hair and make up are on fleek. Just to name a few, hiding from the Saviours, dealing with Gregory, grieving her husband who's head was bashed in before her eyes, birthing a baby with no doctor around. I'm sure that her appearance is by design. None of the women on this show are showing their best appearance, or are the men for that matter.

Haha, fair enough. You're right, they SHOULDN'T look made up-pretty much everyone has better things to do in the ZA. I actually like that the majority of the makeup is basically special fx but that's sort of what got me wondering. It just seemed like they aged her a good 10 years for that ep. I still hate the hair but if they stick to the comic look that's not going to change anytime soon so I should probably get over it.

Just as a side note I think Sasha looks the best of all the girls. They're all naturally beautiful women though. Thanks for responding and not being a total dick. I'm used to the imdb boards and getting my head torn off for having an opinion.

I'm still interested if anyone has thoughts to add. TBH, I think my irritation is just displaced and that I'm only paying attention to dumb things like that because I'm frustrated with this season. Mostly it's pacing issues, but I am constantly rewinding because it's not holding my attention. I can't tell if it's just me or if it's just...off.

@Dreamfever You are right about this season, IMO. The second half especially. Very little happening. I think most actresses are naturally attractive. Kind of required.

That and that everyone has different ideas about what is attractive. Fortunately TWD has cast great talent for the show which is generally more important than what they look like IMO. I'd rather have someone convincingly play a role rather than look like Miss (or Mr?) America.

I'm glad to know it's not just me! But that sucks because I'm concerned about the future of the show. I, along with most everyone who has read the comics, desperately want them to finish out the show because I love seeing the story come to life. Even though they've changed so much it is still satisfying in a strange way.

For sure. Sifting through all the bs threads to find ONE that's actually applicable to the show was...not ideal. I posted quite a bit because I have very few friends who watch it and I like to announce my opinions, random thoughts, and questions online and IRL in general. What I did like about IMDb was the number of people who accessed it, so you could debate, chat, everything the boards are for, and get lots of different reactions. I got used to the trolls and learned to take the good with the bad. There seems to be much less traffic on this board. Not necessarily a bad thing though.

Since the imdb.com message boards were dropped, people have migrated to any number of replacement sites. This is the best I've found although not close to the old imdb.com message boards for the reasons you mention.

Lol, I'm not sure how serious this thread is. If you went to school for makeup-for-tv/film then you know that to make it look like you have no makeup on, you have to have makeup. So, yes, Maggie looks like a wreck, because her makeup is meant to make her look like a wreck.

I don't understand what it is exactly that triggers your reaction. Meaning, what exactly did you think she should have looked like ? You mention that you know she's gone through hell this season (and don't forget that she's pregnant too, that must be quite draining in that context), so naturally you should expect her to look like hell... no ? Also, while I think the way shredder put it is kind of rude, I think he has a point. Surely, given your training, and especially since you've gone through the airbrushing/cake makeup step, you must know that someone without any makeup will look pretty odd in front of a camera or on a stage, so obviously since she looks like she has got no make up, it means she has some on... :P Unless what you mean is that she looks odd in the way someone who's being filmed has forgotten to go through makeup first ?

For my part, however, I was not stricken by her looks. I thought she looked like usual. She seemed pale and I believe I noticed she had circles under her eyes, but like we both seem to have in mind, she exhausted, so that's normal... also in my view I think she still looks good. :) And I've done my share of modeling and assisted my MUA sister, for what it's worth ;)

That's cool about your sister, that's a great school. I went to MUD in Burbank. I didn't learn airbrushing as it was relatively new when I was in school, though I would have loved to. I was trying to kind of say I've been out of the loop so long (almost 20 years ago, which blows me away) that what I know is likely irrelevant. Especially since the field is being constantly updated. I feel like what I know gives me a slightly better idea than the average person, but mostly, it's just enough to know I know nothing. I was very young but more importantly couldn't stand LA or "the industry" so I cut my losses and actually ended up going to college, something I didn't think I had any interest in. But that is all TMI, I'm sure.

IMO Maggie just looked...rough. The lines in her forehead were exaggerated but not to the point they looked enhanced and SUPER shiny skin. Skin that shiny on camera is (to the best of my knowledge) usually means the face is clean or hasn't been adequately powdered. So yeah, to me, she actually looked like she just got skipped during the round up.

I think my brain was just more preoccupied visually than logically because I'm having so much trouble staying focused while I watch, although that's the only episode that really caught my attention. Also, Shredder's post didn't seem rude to me, just concise. But thank you for being nice enough to rephrase, I'm astounded at the civility after so many years of IMDb abuse!

I'm going to assume you skimmed the first post and ignored the rest. Everyone in the show has "gone natural", it's the ZA, no one should be dressed up like a supermodel. I wasn't commenting on the actress herself-she IS gorgeous! In episode 14 however, TO ME, she looked terrible. I didn't create the thread to bag on Lauren or Maggie, I did it because I was surprised at how ragged she looked. And I do hate the hair but that's irrelevant at this point.

I am definitely not perfect but I will admit I am weird about age. I have a baby face which has its pros and cons, but I look nowhere near my actual age. So I'm terrible at figuring out other people's ages, my perspective is totally distorted. BUT I wasn't trying to say Maggie/Lauren looks old in general it was the one episode.

She was stunning in season 2 for sure. And she still is!! I was just surprised at her appearance in that episode. I even said in another post that I think I may have been nitpicking because this season isn't holding my attention. Please read (or at least skim) the other comments before you make general statements like this because it comes off as hostile and uninformed.

I am thankful that this place has few trolls. I am worried about the show because they are trying to give us filler to stretch the seasons out. The show runners just said they think it could go on for years!
