Debate The Walking Dead

With the exception of a few episodes, the show moves at a snails pace to me. It's starting to get really heavily slow. Too much focus on randomness like gardening, walking, driving. Negan's scenes actually feel like highlights in each episode, though he's the main villain right now.

They need to cancel it. It's so ridiculous.

From what i understand after reading a lot of comments from hardcore fans boring slow episodes called "character development" usually if you don't like them you are an action junkie. According to them the walking dead aren't the zombies but the humans, i think (not sure) the new virus is depression, when a character will finally overcome this disease a new character will get infected and the list goes on and on, it might sound boring, repetitive, monotonous, dull etc but they say if you don't like it you are not a true fan. The randomness like gardening, walking, looking the sun or grass is a break from the story so you don't get bored.

It's the fortune 500 with their greedy little hands in the pie. They need to slow the pace so they can fit in as much advert time as possible. Thsi show would have been so much better on HBO.

You don't need an entire episode centered around one character for good character development. Look at Game of Thrones for an example of good pacing with excellent character development.

@movie_nazi I agree, black sails, game of thrones, power... all the good shows really, they mix in the proper screen time for every character to fit in to every episode. TWD doesn't have a larger cast than these other shows. I can't quite figure out why they seclude us to one location for an entire episode... are you telling me they can't figure out how to film and edit in a fashion that would make more sense by the time it's on tv... I really hope they fix this next season because right now, it's very very annoying.

I strongly suspect that the writers are not to blame. I believe that the suits have placed the order to strongly slow down the pace of the story in order to fit as much advert time as possible. However, they are getting too greedy and they are losing viewership because of it. This is also why you rarely see this issue in HBO shows. It is in their best interest (HBO shows) to keep the audience enthralled from season to season and have no pressure from suits to fit in adverts so the flow of the story is always snappy. Blame the death of TWD on corporate greed.

@movie_nazi very valid point... TWD is everything for AMC... I just don't understand why they can't write or edit in a way that includes more locations in one episode... I'm not in the industry so I really don't have the first clue on how to measure film time and edit, what to include what not to and so on, but he'll even that sh$t show Vikings can bounce around each episode. I get advertisements pay the bills, but can't they share the load and still advertise?

If they would have kept the pace up and they still would be advertising but they would have run out of source material by now. Now on this part, you can blame the writers because they rely heavily on the comic book plot. But the problem is the comic book plot is just recycled BS. Its first the meet the governor, they fight him and defeat him. Then Terminus, then the Saviors, etc. More and more baddies. It gets old. Comic books go on forever. What they needed to do is have a plan to end the story with a nice, tight ending. But the suits don't want that! They want this to go on as LONG as possible! They figured you fkn zombies (the viewers not the walkers lol) will tune in no matter what. TWD probably should have been a 7 season show. Now the suits figure they can get 10 seasons out of it with the same writing material. It's all about cutting corners and saving money.

They should cancel this shit.

I have been trying to figure out why (for this entire season) every dang episode is a boring stand alone episode. Why in the blue hell doesn't this show bounce around from character to character, from location to location, from plot to sub-plot? It's just a tedious mess at this point. Nothing really happens, just a lot of people talking about what needs to happen. I can't see this show staying on top for much longer. It's just not interesting enough.

That's exactly what I'm saying, I don't see why they can't take what they've filmed and cut it so we don't sit in one spot all episode. It's stupid.

Yeah, it's become damn near unwatchable. I actually missed the entire Terminus story arc because I got so fed up with the direction of the show that I stopped watching. i am just about ready to stop watching again. It's just frustrating.

It's as though they don't have a clue on how to keep the audience interested. It's almost as though they are trying to purposely get you to stop watching.

It is definitely stretching out the story lines as far as possible. We should have been at this point by the end of last season.

... and to those that think we are just being impatient with character development, I say this: Would you be OK with 11.5 episodes of character development and .5 episodes of story advancement? No? OK, so there is a line. Everyone's is somewhere different. Lets not impugn each other over some black and white character development standard. Everyone wants some of both but a Golden Medium would be nice.

The pacing is horrendous. I'm dragging myself through this season and I'm 99% done after this one. I won't be sucked in by another good season premiere for 14 straight boring ass episodes.
