Watching it has turned into a chore.

I'm not even sure why I bother anymore. Nothing better to do on a Sunday night I suppose.

Lots of shows start to recycle plot lines 7 seasons in. I think 2 things are really hurting the series right now. First, walker kill fatigue. The special effects people try hard to come up with new ones, but they are just starting to all look alike. Second, and I don't know why, the Negan storyline has fallen flat. In the comics this was a kind of reboot of the series, or so I am told, that fans mostly loved, but for whatever reason, it just hasn't had the same success on the show. Maybe it didn't matter as much in the comics that characters were scattered all over the place, but on the show it feels very disjointed.

TRUE. So fucking boring.

I literally think this every time a walker dies. It's like everything has been done (even when it hasn't). "Walker Kill Fatigue" indeed.

Way past it's prime. I really liked it at one time. They dragged out and ruined what would have been a good storyline had they condensed it.

The problem is in the comics you had something happening issue after issue. No filler BS. No Carol woe-is-me episodes. No Daryl on easy street. Something significant CONSTANTLY happened. In other words, the horrendous pacing imposed either to stretch out the story as long as possible for more advert spots (my theory) or the writers are just so dull they can't come up with enough good shit to keep the show jumping every episode. I tend to go with the first one because they were doing a pretty good job the first 3 seasons. Only after the show became a mega hit, and you had the fortune 500 with a spot every episode that the shit slowed down to a crawl. * SIGH * If only the show was on HBO we wouldn't have this awful downfall. This is most likely my last season.

I always thought I'm the only one. I stopped at season 3 - too much of drama.

Personally I think a large factor in the shows decline is how easily zombies are dealt with now. They're just not even slightly scary any more. Even though I get that 'The Walking Dead' always applied to the survivors, and humans were the new danger - ultimately I originally tuned in to watch people trying to survive a zombie apocalypse - now with ZombiesLite it just isn't as engaging.

I have lost a lot of my enthusiasm for the show myself. It feels boring and stretched out a lot--a lot of filler. Negan has been a disappointment as a villain.

I'm just watching it now because I have so much time invested in it, so I want to see how it plays out. But if it's going to go several more seasons, and it doesn't improve next season, I'm probably out.

Well, that is what most zombie films of the past dealt with. The initial apocalypse and people's ability to quickly adapt and survive such an ordeal. I think what made TWD more intriguing than the dozen or so previous zombie films was that it got more into the complete logistics of surviving the apocalypse after people learned how to defend themselves against the infected and how that really was just a minute first step in the entire ordeal. Getting into how humans act when there is no law and order and seeing who steps up and shows he's a mensch and has the cajones to do what needs to be done, IMO, is also quite interesting. Killing zombies and the "OOO scary" factor appeals more to the childish side of people and the actual survival and rebuilding appeals more to the psychological interests in people. I am also a strong proponent of character development but this spending entire episodes on character development of a single character is also a show stopper. That type of shit just reeks of filler. I honestly think if they would have kept the pace up the show would be running strong. They are just squeezing blood from a rock and the show is doomed to go out with a wimper.

I feel the same way. I have no desire to watch it anymore but I fight my way through boring episode after boring episode just to see how it plays out. But I'm close to tapping out at this point. I don't know if I can wait for improvement next season.

You're not alone. This show started to get really boring after season four and the last season and the current one are just painful to watch. It's so annoying to watch for an hour and then be disappointed because nothing happened........again. The Negan character is just god awful. I'm not sure if it's terrible acting or terrible writing or a combination of the two. I mean the guy is ridiculous and it's pretty unbelievable that he has such a hold over all those people. In the real world he wouldn't have lasted five minutes as the guy in charge. I mean really..........Carl is scarier than that clown and that's not saying much. Like a lot of other people I guess I just keep watching and hoping it will get better but I'm about ready to call it quits. Too bad really because this show started off with a bang. Guess we should have expected that after they got rid of Darabont.

I personally think it's the writing and I don't think Morgan is a bad actor but I don't like how he has handled this character. In the comics Neegan is much more animated and intimidating. You could almost say hyper. Morgan's Neegan is just too laid back. I wonder if he will nod out in mid line sometimes. So yeah, dopehead Negan fkn sucks.

@movie_nazi I think you nailed it with what is wrong with the TV Negan. Agree that Morgan is a good actor and when he was cast I thought he'd be a good choice, but the portrayal is off. You want a sense of a razor's edge with Negan but I don't think we are getting that.
