I don't mind Rick's and Michonne's relationship. I just wish it had more passion, but they usually keep it toned down in shows like this. We'll see them holding hands, kissing, and things like that, but we won't see them having a passionate sex scene. We won't get a Jessica Jones' and Luke Cage's kind of sex scene from them. Now that was hot! I think Luke was trying to break her in half.

Netflix has more freedom in that regard. I remember an interview with Jon Bernthal where he recalled the season 1 sex scene in the woods with Sarah Wayne Callies. He said the director kept yelling at him about obvious thrusting motions, telling him to cut it out. And Jon thought this was amusing; I mean, that's generally how it's done, right? Funny interview. But even cable shows have weird rules like that about what's okay to show and what isn't. Glenn and Maggie's scenes together were probably the most passionate and even those were nothing by HBO standards. And why does TWD allow every single profanity in the English language except those involving the f word? Makes no sense.
I know right ! It's bugged me since the first time, I was like wtf...
I mean, neither seems like they should be attracted to the other, like they're not each other's type hahahha ! I don't know why, but it feels like they really don't have a that much in common. I think they're a great couple of friends and it should remain this way. When it first happened I remember thinking the writers seemed to have been out of ideas to surprise us so they did this.
Is it an interracial thing ? No ; someone mentioned the couple in 28 days later, and I'm in full agreement with them. I'd be all for Rick dating a black woman, if she was more "feminine", more like the women we've seen him with so far. It just really feels off...
And I think that you all are fools for buying into it. It's the worst match up in the history of tv.
The problem is that Rick is an ultra alpha male, he doesn't match up with any woman, even Jess, and that is probably why you find it unbelievable.
You think he's ultra alpha ? I think he's been a whiny bitch for quite a while... Like, since season 1 ? HAHAH
Negan is ultra alpha IMO. Abraham was, in a way... Shane too. I think to be alpha a man has to be attractive and reek of power and charisma. That's not really Lincoln's case IMO. He's average looking and skinny, and I don't even understand why people like him as a leader anyhow ! Michonne is more alpha than he is IMO.
And Danai is really trying hard to convince us otherwise. It's bordering on overacting.
When they first hooked up Danai was on Talking Dead - she was saying how great it was there they are together ..... but you could see in her eyes that she was lying. She wasn't feeling it either, I really think they forced it. They are much better as friends.
I agree with this sentiment completely. And I know we have discussed it on these boards before. After reading through this whole thread I think for me this is the issue: they are both alpha...and that doesn't really work. As someone else has insinuated I would say that Michonne is even more alpha that Rick...especially the Rick of late. I think the fact that they are both alpha is also why it would work so much better if they were friends/partners but not lovers. They compete, but who's the protector? The only way to make it work would be to gut one of the characters...and that would be really sad for the show.
I could see Rick with someone else and Michonne with someone else..almost anyone else. I love the comment that someone made that in the comics Michonne was with Ezekiel. And as far as a race thing: that's not a factor for me that I can tell. As I bring to mind other characters Rick and Michonne would be written with race doesn't come to mind...I just ain't buying them together. I love Michonne's character, but this relationship just kills her character when it hits the screen.

Honestly, I'm just not going to be that choosy in a post apocalyptic world. If her goods work, we can do a whole lot of monkey business.

I never liked them as a couple, either.
