did they have a budget cut? I couldn´t remember that many reminders that TWD is still "just" a TV show in the last seasons.

The deer looked awkwardly bad. Two episodes before we had one of the worst greenscreens of the the entire show :

And the tiger ... I get used to it, but sometimes - maybe - if you don´t have the budget or time. Just don´t do it.

Still enjoying the show - and it has a big production value most of the time - that´s why I don´t get this glitches.

I don't understand the CGI deer. They have captive born and raised ones they use in TV shows and movies, like the 2nd season episode where Carl got shot for example. The tiger is a matter of safety. I get that. But a deer doesn't kill people when it's a foul mood. Even cheap CGI is more expensive than just getting a real deer down there and filming it. Makes no sense to me.

Creating that massive landfill behind Rick would've taken a long time. I don't think it's a budget issue here, so much as it is a question of lead time and whether enough land is available at that location to actually build the full set. There probably wasn't enough. Time, or land. I agree they should've worked a little harder to smooth out those edge effects though. You can really tell Andrew Lincoln is standing in front of a green screen.

Yeah I forgot about that Horrid landfill CGI but they topped that last episode with that ridiculous "Deer" I do wonder how much they cut the budget for this season.

I'm Glad there are no Flying Dragons on the show grin they'll just do a close up of a lizard and shoop bat wings on it

With the top 10 fortune 500 companies buying advert space on this show I really do not think they have the excuse that they don't have the money. Besides, does it really cost that much to get a real deer for that scene?

No! Even cheap CGI is more expensive, which is why I really wonder what the hell they were thinking. Remember Buttons? That was a real horse, except for the scenes where it was being eaten by walkers. Then they used a life-sized dummy. Not cheap-ass computer graphics. And that deer was so fake looking it was a distraction. No logic that I can see here.

I didn't mind the CGI deer. Eh, better to me than have a real animal exploited.

All it would've had to do was stand there. They had a real deer for the episode where Carl got shot in the woods by Otis. It was captive born and raised of course, a wild one would've bolted long before Chandler Riggs got anywhere near it. But there are companies who provide these animals for TV and movie productions and they're generally treated very well. They're like pets to their handlers and aren't locked up in cages when they're not "working". Well, certain animals like bears and lions have to be kept in enclosures but they tend to be big ones. The need to have the animals be mellow and work well with humans pretty much requires that they not be mistreated.

I love the Walking Dead and if it means using these funny special effects but maintaining such a large talented cast because of it then it makes me happy.
