All Rick has done is mistreat Eugene. And Negan is offering Eugene a lot of perks like power, leadership, some prestige, that snazzy apartment with a kitchen and a stocked up fridge with lots of decent food and access to Negan's wives. If I were Eugene, I would have no problem betraying Rick either. It's about time Eugene quit acting like a scared sewer rat. Carpe Diem Eugene! He's gotten way more interesting in my opinion.

It's gonna be a long drawn out war between Rick and The Saviors because the only people willing to betray Negan are weak anyway. And Negan is really good at weeding out the weak and disloyal.

No, I disagree that Rick mistreated Eugene. The Walking Dead is a great example of social construct in a small scale. Rick's group is more Marxist, where all people are equal, and that they all work together and share the spoils equally. Leadership has their roles to play, workers have their roles, and Eugene had a role too. He did set up their electric grid, created a system to make bullets, helped them scavenge by inventing (or making) useful items for Negan based on scraps that they found.

Negan's group is more like a corporation. Your rank is based on how valuable you are to the company. Your reward or salary is based on your importance and contribution. Eugene still has a job to do, but his share isn't split equally anymore. Now he gets what he's earned. And the more he's earned, the more he gets. So in a sense, it's depends on the life you want. You want to be a corporate stooge or a socialist communist? Either or, they have their advantages and disadvantages.

I'm actually more concerned with comparing which guy is the better and more successful leader of their community. Negan has more experience as a leader because he's a better leader. He rose as alpha male and is doing whatever he needs to survive for the long haul. Rick is just some stupid cop who lives day to day and not thinking of the future for his group. Call it whatever you want but Rick has a responsibility to create and maintain a community. Every time he has failed. And he's never been able to consistantly achieve that because he doesn't know how to organize. He constantly finds himself on the disadvantage because he doesn't delegate responsibility effectively. They had that counsel in season three that failed because nobody knew their place within the group. No direction. Just chaos. Now Rick is thinking of sustainability but that certainly wasn't his idea. It's only because Michonne is nagging him about it and stopped giving up the her sweet goodies. Which is kind of the same way it happens in the comics but with Andrea.

That is a matter of opinion based on very little metrics data. You're just picking one based on who you like more rather than objective examination of their actual leadership skills.
