I'm hoping Eugene is playing chess and not checkers. I'm hoping this is a move that will be advantageous for Team Rick. What do you guys think?

I'm hoping that Eugene is just being smart and has realized it would make no sense for him to be stubborn and NOT be 'negan.' He's stuck there no matter what for the time being, might as well not be stuck eating dog food and listening to Easy Street on repeat.

Honestly, I don't know if I could have three women--they could be ugly--hanging with me like that during the apocalypse without having sex. If Eugene would have had a quick orgy with these women, would it diminish his character?

😂It honestly would seem more out of character for Eugene to have an orgy with three chicks than for him to legitimately be a closet Negan supporter this entire time.

I don't think he was a closeted Negan supporter, but he could have been. Surely, he's in survival mode right now. I was thinking back when we first met Eugene he was kind of an a-hole. He treated everybody as if they were beneath him. When he was giving directions at the very end of this episode, I got some of that old, a-hole vibe. So, do you think the young lady actually wanted to take her life or was she part of the plot to kill Negan?

All of the above. She probably does want to kill herself and wishes Negan dead. Not sure if she was part of the actual plot but she wouldn't be opposed to the outcome.

No, he's not a sell out. He's an opportunist. There is a difference in picking the team that will best help you get what you want, and selling out to a team to get what you is best for you. Negan is smart. He knows that giving those that give him an advantage what they want gets him what he wants. It's called a symbiotic relationship. They both succeed together as a team. Eugene is smart, knows things, and can obviously deliver in the heat of the moment. Negan sees an asset, Eugene sees a life. Both are getting what they want.

Ha! You got that right! Better to play along than to be stuck in that vomit inducing room!

Found the attached interview with Josh McDermitt that asks if Eugene has indeed changed over to the "dark" side. Enjoy!

I agree. We are seeing Eugene as we first saw him. He has played himself up and people have bought it. He is given protection and now goods because of what they think he can offer. However, I think there is a difference in Eugene now compared to when we first saw him. When first introduced, Eugene was a complete cowardly opportunist. Things have changed. Eugene has shown signs of bravery and confidence. He even laid his life on the line driving the RV as a decoy before Negan caught Rick and Co. I believe he is playing Negan. He is now in a very similar place that Daryl was in a few episodes ago. But Eugene is smarter, he's using a play from the Carol playbook. He's telling Negan what he wants to hear and will try to destroy or sabotage from the inside instead of meeting brute force with brute force. Eugene's strength is his mind; he's looking toward the end-game. And why not enjoy some pickles and video games along the way?

@GrandTardigrade , I'm not entirely sold on the fact that Eugene will destroy the Saviors from the inside. I'm more 50/50 on that, like Eugene is only a few seconds from drinking the koolaid, or yeah, he may be devising a plan to destroy Negan. I'm actually looking forward to seeing this storyline develop and unfold.

I'd like to think Eugene is practicing subterfuge inside of Negan's compound, but I'm torn on the issue too. I think Eugene is out for Eugene most of the time, but I'm taking into account how he tricked everybody in the past. I'd like to think he's made a change for the better, and this current situation is a means to a positive conclusion in favor of Rick and his people.

Yes he is. If he wasn't, he'd have given the pills to the women and let them get rid of Negan, but he's a coward who values his own skin above all else. He believes that with Negan ruling the roost, he is safe, but there's no telling what would happen in the ensuing power struggle, should he be killed.
