Just checked out another board and..."I SEE TROLLS".
Weed smoking, video game playing, living in parents basement, B-word talking TROLLS. πΊπΊπΊ
I think we may need to escalate the, "REPORT, IGNORE" request. We may also need to put in a request marked "EXILE" and shoot π« them into space ππ π½ like what they did to the villains π΅on Krypton with the clear floating disc in space.
Seems like an argument may be in the works between new comers that just arrived today.
The honeymoon π°π period is coming to a close quickly. β³
Note: Weed πΏπ§ smoking π¬ optional...due to medicinal purpose. π€

That's what the ignore button is for, you can find it in the bottom-right corner.

Which is a cop out. Just admit that you came to this site to do the exact same thing you did on imdb and that is start trouble and run away all the decent posters so that this site will be ruined just like imdb was.

Trolls are ubiquitous. It would almost be better to get rid of the people who complain about trolls, because they're the ones feeding the trolls. They're like eye-bleeding neon signs begging for trolls to come.
They have been around since the birth of the internet. The only relatively troll free boards aren't the ones who ban them, they're the ones who ignore them. IMDb's biggest failure was taking them seriously as a problem. It validated them and they love being validated. Ban one get twenty more. This is not a problem until you make it a problem.

Are you kidding me? IMDB's problem is they did absolutely nothing about trolls (except use them as an excuse later on). If you told another user in graphically disturbing detail exactly how you planned to kill them, you might get banned but that's pretty much what it took. Anything even slightly short of that? No action taken. That was IMDB's biggest failure.
Here's how you deal with trolls. You see someone being a troll, ban their account and wipe out all their posts. Gone like they never existed. As long as they can return with new identities and step right back into the conversations they were having under their old usernames, you'll never be rid of them. But if they can't hang around very long being trolls and their old posts don't linger when their accounts get terminated, suddenly trolling is no fun at all! And don't talk about how poor innocent users will end up getting banned. Troll behavior is very distinctive and different from even the most opinionated of honest users. Looking at a person's posting history, don't tell me you'd have trouble distinguishing the two. What you need are mods in the threads who can catch the new accounts quickly. Multiple bans will be required to get the message across and they need to happen in quick succession. If they're being just well behaved enough that you can't quite tell if they're a troll, fine. Wait and see. It'll become clear one way or the other soon enough. But the moment someone uses the word butthurt ... BANNED! No one talks that way but a damn troll.
Cockroaches have been around since the dawn of human dwellings. Does that mean we should give up trying to keep our homes free of them? Don't tell us the problem is everyone else except the trolls. They're the problem, end of story. And how do you handle a pest control problem? Bring in the exterminators. Nothing else works.

πππ Kay would probably think that the victim of a mass shooting is the problem rather than the victim. And, the reason why the shooter decided to shoot and kill everyone is because they shouldn't have been wherever they were in the first place. Or they zigged when they should have zagged. In other words...blame the victim...not the perp.

Hey, if they weren't standing right in the path of my bullets they wouldn't have gotten shot!

πNot the response I would have expected from such a well written and we'll intended prior post. Oh well. π

I was agreeing with you. It's a ludicrous argument, like saying that if you hadn't taken money out of the ATM you wouldn't have been followed and jumped. It's not the fault of the criminals, you brought it on yourself. That line of reasoning is rarely used so transparently but people often try to find ways of getting you to accept at least part of the blame for someone's else actions. It's important to always correct them. Never let it slide.

I guess I missed your sarcasm. I did think for a sec that you may be speaking of Kay...but I wasn't entirely sure. Oops...my bad. π―

It's easy to misinterpret someone's intentions in text form, when you can't see their face or hear their voice. Think nothing of it. But yeah, I was just being a smartass. Not implying I wanted to shoot Kay_Rock though. I have nothing against her, just disagreed with that one comment.

So true. It does help not fall off the wagon and go for the jugular. People are so quick to do that. Next thing you know...you're in a drag out, take no prisoners fight.
Yeah, sometimes it's tricky knowing what the other person meant. Thanks for not going off on me and choosing to calmly explain yourself like someone not on meds for instability.
I've already encountered my share of unstable people already. Like straight jacket unstable.

Keep in mind that a troll's objective is to figure out how to get under your skin and bait you into an argument. Oh I have no doubt some of them are as nuts as they sound, but often it's just an act. They're like bratty little kids looking for attention. They'll say whatever it takes to get a rise out of people. Who knows how much of it they actually believe. I'd be willing to bet a lot of them are powerless in their real lives. They have lousy jobs where the boss treats them like crap and they have to sit and take it day after day, or they're unemployed and frustrated that their lives are going nowhere, so they sit at their computer venting their rage at random people online. You could almost feel sorry for them. Almost.

+chrisjdel: I have a difficult time understanding the type of character who derives pleasure from hurting others. The "everyday sadist", or troll, has received a lot of media attention in the last decade because the social media playground has outed them. From what I've read, about 29% of the population has these sadistic tendencies. Wow. I don't like hurting other people; it doesn't make me feel good or superior to know that I'm hurting or annoying someone else. I used to work with a guy who would make it his business to learn his co-workers weaknesses, so that his could use that knowledge to annoy or hurt them. He would delight in their misery. And yet, if you were in need, or any kind of help, he'd be the first person to step up and do what could. So maybe trolls aren't all bad. And if you're going to be an everyday sadist, internet forums are a relatively harmless venue to channel your energy. I am so setting myself up for getting trolled.........!
