So went over to IMDb and posted a few links to this site on several active threads. Lets see what happens. And... it's true... a lot and I mean a lot of the threads there are pure garbage. Sex with the dead etc.
Let's make the trolls and idiots that do come here among the good posters feel unwanted. It's nice to have a new home.

It was actually shut down on 2/19 around 6 pm. They mentioned a date but wouldn't say which time zone. People were caught off-guard mid-typing.

Yeah, Presidents Day conveniently. But while I agree with you on letting imdb falling into whatever abyss they just made for themselves, I do have to disagree about the forums being archived.
Now hear me out, most if not all the posts were made throughout the years...that is a history of people's views and takes on films to just throw away as easily as imdb did. There are analysis and theories on certain films that people could use for a disertation or something. Time people put into explaining what they think the film makers wanted to get across.
There was a post on YouTube about a the Korean horror film A Tale of Two Sisters. It goes heavily into stuff that is never quite explained or might have flew over people's heads when they watched the film. This post was archived on the website I listed because people that go back and watch that film at a later date might need clarification or even another person's opinion and take on it.
It is sad that imdb just threw us all to the wind because of whatever stick got lodged in their posteriors...but they also threw away years of some people's hard work and effort to help make cinema and films as a whole more enjoyable for everyone. So yes I agree they should go down in a fiery blaze...but at the same time we should archive the posts too to keep them for other people.

First off, Tale of Two Sisters was archived to this board, you can go check it. I have seen that movie many times. I think you'll find that people pulled over quite a few posts that were significant into this board.
I agree with you that there was info on that board that was priceless, but that is all the more reason IMDB should have made it read only, if only to fuel the people into a good rage, so that none of those people would EVER go back to IMDB. But because IMDB played nice and allowed archiching, those people are not happy but ok with it, dealing with it. I wanted those people to be livid, furious, outraged.
The bigger the loss, the more likely IMDB could have failed. Now I think they will be down but not out.

IMDB didn't want the independent information in the forums to influence the users on their site.

What does this have to do with The Walking Dead?

Because this is how we survive. We tell ourselves... that we are the walking dead.

But they took it offline without warning before 8PM EST on the 19th
. That's an even bigger slap in the face to the IMDB community.

I think that because IMDB started off in the UK, they thought it would be okay to use the Greenwich Meridian Time (GMT) zone.

That's what pissed me off. I had planned on still using IMDb, but after that stunt, which I thought was a big FU to all of us, I'm avoiding the site like the plague.

I know many people asked for a specific time, but they were never replied to (I'm referring to the admin forums).

Oh wow, didn't know that. That's even shadier than I previously thought. That tells me they wanted to catch people off guard.

That would have been far more palatable. It's a great idea.

It would still have gone against one of the main reasons they closed the boards.

That's a good point.
I'm not confident we still know the whole truth behind the decision. I know what they said, and I've seen a lot of interesting theories, but something feels off about it all.

They were bought by Amazon. A giant corporation's main concern is growth. IMDB was banned in China. The message boards make IMDB dangerous. Getting into and staying in the Chinese market the goal of Amazon, Google, Twitter and Facebook.
