Do a lot of people like him?
I never liked him that much compared to the other characters. The only scene I really liked him in was when he finally broke free from the northerners beyond the wall and got away in that scene where Bran revealed his powers to see things as he and others hid out.
His whole dalliance with that red headed girl wasn't that interesting. It was okay, but it's just that I never got into his story. I did like the early scenes where he built camaraderie with Tyrion and taught Sam, I think, how to fight. I liked his code, but he broke it with the redhead.
So now, as they seem to want to keep pushing him as a potential top male hero, obviously, I'm not that into it. I liked Robb Stark more than Snow and even thought he was a better leader.
Here's a brief list of characters I like or liked more than Jon Snow....:
Robb Stark
Danaerys
Mormont
Kal Drago
Tyrion
Jaime
Ned
Catelyn
Arya
Hound
Brienne
I've always been only lukewarm about Snow. I don't dislike him, but he's not one of my favorite characters. Maybe that'll change.

I think there was a poll that determined that Jon's affair with "the redhead" (Ygritte) was the best love subplot, and the Robb' with Talisa was the worst, rushed through in order to set up the Red Wedding.
My complaint about Jon is that he is too predictable.

My complaint about Jon is that he is too noble. (Sort of like Ned; noble to the point of foolishness).

I have always liked Jon but he is a bit too melancholy.

It drives me crazy because that nobleness gets them killed! Then again .... Rob wasn't noble and he was killed too.

Thanks for giving me some insight on his character and what people think. Thought I might get some flack. It's not that I dislike him, just that I don't like him as much as others.

Yeah, I guess it was pretty good. It was a good scene when she tried to kill him with the arrow anyway, but he escaped. But I did actually like Robb and Talisa's better because you knew he was supposed to be committed to Walder's daughter. That was good, and I liked how it unfolded from the start. Originally Catelyn didn't trust her I remember, but she turned out to be good. The wedding was one of the, if not the, most messed up scenes I ever saw outside of horror movies. I totally did not see that coming. The way it went down was unreal.

You are in the minority. A LOT of people like Jon Snow. Though he is foolish quite a bit, the fact that he is willing to risk his life countless times make him the hero of the show. Examples of his heroic acts: risking his life to spy on wildlings, abandoning Ygritte for his responsibility with the Night's watch despite his love for her, leading the attack on the mutineers at Craster's keep, attempting to go kill Mance which was a suicide mission had Stannis not come to his rwscue, rescuing the wildlings from the undead, going to BoB to take back Winterfell from Ramsey, going beyond the wall in last episode's ridiculous plan, among many other selfless acts. All this make him the ultimate hero of the show. He has no desire for power yet he takes up the obligation of being a leader anyway. The fact that he was a poor bastard with no right to anything makes him an underdog and people usually root for underdogs. He also volunteers to go to the Night's Watch when people usually only go if as punishment say a lot about him. It's not surprising people the audience roots for him, a lot.
Oh ... and ofcause the actor's good looks and head full of curls also help make him a favourite.
