Things that are not plot holes.

  1. Danarys travelling quickly is not a plot hole. She is travelling by Dragon. It's easily conceivable she is able to travel at 100mpH in a straight line. She can travel accross Westeros in a couple of hours.

  2. A group of Whites being alone is not a plot hole. We know very little about the White Walkers, and there is no reason to suppose that there would not be a group which is apart from the main group. Obviously not a plot hole. Just dull imaginations.

  3. The Dragons not targeting the White Walkers. They had only just discovered that the whites will die when the White Walkers had been killed. This information had not been relayed to Danarys, and definitely not to her dragons.

Things that are not plot holes but lack some logic.

  1. The knight King throws at the Dragon which is further away. This is doubly annoying because there was no need for it to be written that way. They could have just made a dragon fly closer to him.

  2. Jon sends a Raven to Danarys. Why? What would this message have relayed? That they were about to be swamped by an army of undead? They had no reason to expect they would be trapped for days on an island surrounded by an army.

  3. Jon remaining on the ground picking off random wights while the rest of them were waiting for him on the dragon. Why?? He had plenty of time to jump on the dragon instead of pointlessly putting himself in danger.

Things that may or may not be plot holes, but are fucking ridiculous.

  1. Uncle Benjamin. So they made Jon get left behind, just so that uncle Benjamin could miraculously come out of nowhere to save him? Why not just have him get on the dragon?

  2. The group of them holding out so long against an army of undead. I mean, really? come on.

I probably missed some.

That whole episode just negated anything "cool" that happened in previous ones.

Good post, OP.

Also, I don't feel like it negated the cool episodes that preceded it. I was mildly distracted though by the logical stretches and happy/unhappy "coincidences".

Still the best hour of entertainment I've had all week though so I'm not going to complain.

It was still entertaining. I understand they are sacrificing the quality of writing at times to move the plot along and up the stakes. But as I pointed out, some of these things were unneccessary and just sloppy. I understand that the reason Jon had to get left behind was for drama and to show how upset Danarys was when he got left behind. But surely they can do better than Uncle Ben coming out of nowhere? They could have easily set that up by having a scene earlier showing uncle ben seeing them from a distance and setting off on his horse. Something like that. Anything would have been better.

At least Uncle Ben wasn't killed by a common street thug during a botched robbery attempt. (kidding)

I was really sorry to see him go since he was such a central character in the story. (sarcasm)

Really, I think the writers just found a way out for Jon-boy and conveniently tied up a loose thread by killing off the uncle. A kind of two birds with one stone, lazy approach to writing.

I don't have an issue with Dany traveling quickly but it's the entire process happening while the ice was refreezing. By process I mean running back to the wall, Raven flying to Dany, Dany flying on her dragon. Too much. An incredible amount of WTF in the episode and that's just one example.

Once they showed the group stranded on that little rock(far from an island, lol) and what looked to be a good 100-200k plus white walkers surrounding them in a tight circle and they all just stand there? For SO LONG doing nothing. Lots of walkers are literally skeletons some without an actual brain so wt actual f'k were they waiting for other than for Dany to save the day, HORRIBLE WRITING and execution with that entire set-up. And don't even think about the rock that the hound threw, why the f'k was he encouraging them exactly?

He had been standing on a 30 ft island for at least 24 hours. Him throwing a rock out of boredom made total sense.

The episode was just badly written to get to the point of the "undead dragon" which anyone watching the series could see coming a mile out.

This is not the walking dead. White Walkers are NOT Wights.

The Night King has some sort of seer ability, he needs the dragon to breach the Wall that's why he waited and made his undead bitches wait around.

That doesn't make sense. They engaged them after hound threw the rock....not because the night king wanted them to.

Didn't they wait around because the ice was thin and the Night King didn't want to lose his whole army? He was willing to starve them out.

As illogical as this is, I thought The Hound throwing the rock and it landing on the ice and it not cracking or it showing that it was now frozen over again, showed the wights that they can reach them again.. that's why he said 'oh shit' or whatever he said. Again, it's not logical because 1 rock doesn't equal the weight of the army of the undead.. but that's what I got from that.

It's 2000 miles from The Wall to Dragonstone. Even if she was flying 100 mph, it would take 20 hours. Plus you completely dismissed that a raven had to fly to Dragonstone in the first place to deliver the message. All this happens in 1 night in the show, but would easily have taken at least 3 days if not longer.

There has been teleporting and plot holes galore in this season. These D&D writers are hacks and are using all the usual tricks you find in run of the mill TV series.

Where did you get that number from? It's never specified. And it's been suggested that Westeros is smaller in the TV series than the books. Birds can fly average speeds of 70mph. 100mpH is actually a very low speed for a Dragon. 200mph would be easily conceivable. Let's assume that in the TV series the distance is 1000 miles. it would have taken the Raven 12 hours, and the dragon 5. Plenty of time.

Even if you want to be a stickler and insist that the distance MUST be 2000 miles, is would have taken a total of 34 hours. So you can assume that that sent the raven in the morning, and Danarys arrived the evening of the next day. Which there is no reason to suppose is not what happened. We saw them overnight on the island.

See, it just takes a tiny little bit of imagination. This is a fantasy series after all.

Is 100 MPH slow for a dragon? I've never seen a dragon fly faster than 100 MPH, have you?
