I assumed he was headed to Castle Black since his vows would prevent him from assuming the leadership of his previous house. I don't think there is any clause in their vows that releases them if they would have been the last of their house.

I can't believe Randall Tarley was actually getting all smug refusing to bend the knee to Denaerys swearing allegiance to Cersei when she had been his ally for all but 10 minutes. He was loyal to House Tyrell all his life he should have come to his senses and switched back to Dany as soon as she demanded it considering Dany and Ollena were allies right up till Ollena's death. And Dickson offered to die like he owed Cersei anything, that was just insane!

True, but the Watch is almost finished, down to a handful of men. Once the wights come, it may cease to exist at all. That would free Sam to marry Gilly and inherit the lordship.

Anyway, I don't think anyone should be bound by those vows, since they were mostly taken under duress.

Even though his father was cruel to him and threatened to have him killed, Sam will most likely grieve for him and Dickon.

Sam may end up becoming Lord Tarley by the end of the show if the White Walkers are destroyed and the Watch is found to be unnecessary but as of right now his vows are still intact. I don't think he will neglect his vows just yet. With that said, Sam very well could abandon his vows and I don't think anyone from the Wall would hunt him down. They do have more pressing issues.

Regarding the death of his family, I think Sam will mourn the death of his brother but not his father.

Lord Tarley was a despicable character, but he did have one moving moment. He gestured for Dickon to stay put and survive, but Dickon chose to die with his father, and their last act was to clasp hands. So Lord Tarley could at least be inspiring to somebody.

Dickon wasn't an entirely noble character though. He knew he was the favored son, and had no problem with his elder brother being forced to take the black. He was all set to be Lord of Horn Hill.

Sam probably headed to Winterfell. First, he would want to hand the stolen books to Jon; secondly, he would have to hide from the other Measters and Jon is probably is best protection.

Considering that he was forced to take a lifelong oath of service under the threat of being murdered by his father, that's not surprising.

He's a useless flake! Bran didn't need Sam to tell him about the Targaryan wedding because Bran should have already known that with his new three eye crow super powers.

Bran himself said that he was overwhelmed by visions and needed to learn to organize them. That's why he abdicated the Lord of Winterfell position and let Sansa stay in charge when the normal rules of succession ( males by age and then females by age) would have given him the title..

Sam suggested that he meditate on a particular question ("Did the wedding really occur") and see if that triggered a vision as the answer. He was right. Sam has given Bran a clue to organizing his visions, and was not useless at all.

By the way, I am not too happy with the entire Bran-as-visionary subplot. It makes him too much of a deus-ex-machina, able to obtain any information that his companions need to know.

Having his character begin to really grow into these abilities could've spoiled the story earlier on, but we're in the home stretch now and the scope of his seeing has (wisely) been limited. Presumably Bran could've looked over the High Septon's shoulder while he was writing in his diary and seen what Sam read for himself. Or called up the wedding by simply willing the truth to come to him. But it seems he needs to know that there's something to look for and roughly when and where to search for it. He doesn't spontaneously come to awareness of any and all relevant information. This is no small thing. It's usually the stuff you have no inkling about that's the most vital. He can discover some of it by rooting around in the past - but not all.

Certainly his ability to track the army of the dead hasn't done them much good so far. I don't think Bran is going to survive the war against the Night King. He will play a vital role, at the cost of his life. At least that's my sense.
