I have a very basic question about Jon's origins: who is his father? I thought according to this theory his father was the mad king, but I read something about Danaerys being Jon's aunt and I'm confused.

Rhaegar Targaryen is Jon's father. Last season in a Bran flashback, he sees a young Ned Stark come to Lyanna Stark (Ned's sister) on her death bed. Lyanna whispers to Ned "promise me". Robert Baratheon claimed Rhaegar kidnapped Lyanna but it wasn't true, they ran off with each other. Rhaegar was Daenerys's brother.

You should also probably point out that Rhaegar was the Mad King's oldest son and heir to the throne. Next in line was that twat Viserys (golden crownboy) and then Dany. In actuality, I believe Jon has a decent claim on the throne as well.

I thought of that too, but on second thought that would be a huge letdown. It would be more exciting if, because Jon died and was brought back, that he is now immune to being turned by the Night King.

The last Targaryen king was the Mad King Aerys. He was father to Rhaegar, Viserys, and Danaerys.
Rhaegar fathered Jon through his liaison with Lyanna Stark (but it is uncertain whether he married her). If he did, Jon is the Targaryen heir. If it didn't, it's Dany.

But if that happens that means that Arya is dead, and if Arya dies we riot.
