I really thought he was going to come to the rescue! Style wise - they should have been playing some sort of Bennie Hill music when he looked and leaped.
I am re watching the series now - He was never strong - he had a mouth on him and could shoot an arrow but that's about it. I had forgotten that, and thought that he was broken when he became Reek ...... I think he had a bit of Reek all along.
Also remember how he repeatedly risked his life to save Sansa. So I don't think it's fair to dismiss him as a coward, even though that's how the other characters will no doubt view it. He's clearly suffering from some form of PTSD, and as stated what he did may actually have been the smartest choice. It looked cowardly primarily because it looked like he was acting out of blind panic rather than rationality, and in that instant that may have been the case. In the long run, though, it may prove to have been the wisest decision.
Agree that leaving the ship's better for Theon, I can't see him saving his sister at that moment but something about his jump looked funny..or maybe cos the uncle was laughing after. I read somewhere that maybe he will cross paths with Gendry.
I did get the Reek vibes earlier when Ellaria was asking him to refill her drink. The way he walked and his head during that scene was very Reekish. Now would be a good time to go to Winterfell as Sansa's in charge now, for sure people there still hate him.
From rewatching the episode it also looked like Yara was signaling him not to do anything. There was a slight shake of her head. Or am I just imagining it?
Well, I'm glad he ran for it. He'd be dead otherwise. I'm a great Theon sympathizer.
oh boy lol but really...what's next for him? Go back to Sansa?
I'm kind of hoping he'll come back and rescue her. I also think there may be a chance of him running into gendry but of course this is only possible if they bring that actor back onto the show.

I saw "the look" too, but it looked to me like a look of contempt at how cowardly he was.
I have the feeling he'll get his redemption by being the one to kill Euron.
Yeah, I think that look on her face was pure disgust at Theon.

A little bit of Reek came out, but at the same time he made the logical choice - the ship was lost and him dying wouldn't have accomplished much.
I think he ran away to fight another day, he will save his sister and get his redemption.

"I think he ran away to fight another day, he will save his sister and get his redemption."
There's an old proverb:
He who fights and runs away Lives to fight another day.
There's a more cynical version:
He who fights and runs away Lives to run another day.

For Theon's sake, I hope this is the case. But he better do something soon to save his sister.

Dory: Hey there, Mr. Grumpy Gills. When life gets you down do you wanna know what you've gotta do?
Theon: No I don't wanna know.
Dory: Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming. What do we do? We swim, swim.
Theon: Dory, no singing
Dory: Ha, ha, ha, ha, ho. I love to swim. When you want to swim you want to swim.

I think this as well. All he woulda have done was gotten Yara killed and himself. Strategically it was the right move.

If Theon stayed behind in the ship he'd been killed or imprisoned. And nobody would warn about the attack as fast as he . It was the right decision.
