About the "bellywarmers" aboard the ships

What did the white guys do with them after they got finished having their fun? Does anyone have any idea? Are any historians reading who may have any idea? The men might've gotten them pregnant, and they probably didn't want to deal with babies being born on the most likely food scarce ships.
Did they toss the women into the ocean?

I don't know the answers to any of the questions you've asked, but just want to say I nightly followed this excellent miniseries (and later the sequel miniseries) back when it originally was broadcast on t.v. and recall being thoroughly engrossed. Back in the day, this was definitely must-see-t.v. for seemingly everyone.
