Discuss Dragon Ball

I think there are still problems with the naming of episodes and seasons.

To my knowledge https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Dragon_Ball_episodes is the most accurate list.

At tmdb season 7 starts with:

1 Episode 1 October 14, 1987

We don't have an overview translated in English. Help us expand our database by adding one.

2 Rivals and Arrivals October 21, 1987

As Master Roshi and the rest of the gang head for the World Martial Arts Tournament, one member is noticeably...

Quite suspicious to have an episode one with no content. Maybe because all is named incorrectly?

According to the Wikipedia article "Which Way to Papaya Island?" is episode one of season 7. In tmdb this is tracked as s6e16. So looking at season 6 it has 16 episodes VS 14 episodes according to wiki. Oh my..

There seem to by quite some inconsistency here. Anybody care to help me unravel it?

The wiki article seems to be right and looking at airing dates it also makes much more sense.

Hi bbaggins,

I came across the same problem. It seems the first seasons don't match with other episodelists I know (e.g. Wikipedia). I also encountered that there are no overviews for the german language. Today I added them, corrected some episode numbers and filed some reports in the forum.

I am going to go through this afternoon and fix all the episodes. I will use the overviews from the Wikipedia page as well,

It's mainly users doing whatever they please. There are also too many episodes in some seasons because people wanted to do whatever DVD order they have found. Have a look at https://www.themoviedb.org/talk/588cb35bc3a368086500058a?page=7#5ad0d0e50e0a26303300c047

Aim to clean-up the current mess and if you still want you can add any variants, ex. US DVD order as you please.

I will check for the german versions again on the weekend. Thx for the info :-)

Just a quick note btw.: TMDB should always be by country of "Origin" so if the default order should become arcs please use the Japanese ones (but having absolute order would probably be correct - it's just that the season images would have to be put to sleep until they can be added to the episode groups):

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Dragon_Ball_episodes#Sagas_overview
(13 - 15 - 17 - 12 - 10 - 16 - 18 - 21 - 31 eps)
vs

Since there are no mod tools to move things around @travisbell is probably the only person who could easily preserve all the translations.

I fully agree! I still need to get used to the new "feature" of grouping. I will decide afterwards if I change anything location based...

Since I was kinda confused what order TVDB took I actually had a look. They followed Toei's website which has only 6 "seasons/arcs" https://forums.thetvdb.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=43796. In hindsight this should probably be the one to be followed for obvious reasons :) (for the default)...

Agreed about following Toei, the only issue is deleting all the duplicate episodes and reordering everything. It seems as though we aren't allowed to do the reordering and need a mod.

Also when we get to the stage of grouping, make sure to do a group that is all 153

Might have been a bit premature as no one cleaned up any of the episodes yet...

A moderator here, but I'm not familiar with this show specifically and animes generally. worried

So, I want to ask you all a few things to find out how much work we have to do to solve the mistakes of this show:

@sp1ti is correct -> we want the default order of the episodes according to the first release, and that was the Japanese one. "Original Air Date" means exactly that -> so episodes should be added and ordered first in Japanese and according to how this show aired in Japan.

so if the default order should become arcs please use the Japanese ones (but having absolute order would probably be correct

So, that means we have to make 1 general decision for this show regarding the order:

Option 1: Episodes split in seasons representing the Japanese arcs.

OR

Option 2: Episodes all put together in 1 big season without splits.

I can't decide that. What's more correct when you think of this content? Any opinions? (From my naive point of view, I think it would be easier to fix everything if we put all episodes into 1 big season of 153 episodes, to be honest. But we should decide for what is accurate regarding the content.)

it's just that the season images would have to be put to sleep until they can be added to the episode groups

We asked Travis about season images to episode groups - no answer, yet.

That means, if we decide for option 1, we have to follow Toei's website, yes?!?

Since there are no mod tools to move things around @travisbell is probably the only person who could easily preserve all the translations.

I asked Travis how he could help us technically with this type of shows a week ago, but I haven't got an answer yet. So, I can't say anything about how this will happen.

On the other hand, if we have to do it manually, I think we have to:

  1. Decide for Option 1 or Option 2.
  2. Create the correct Japanese default version.
  3. Move all translations and episode images to the matching Japanese default version.
  4. Create episode groups for whatever airing.

Did I forget something?!? snail

Yes, you need a mod. I would like to help, but I'm a bit reluctant because I don't speak Japanese and I don't know anything about animes. I'm going to ask another moderator first, @Marr, if I could start anyways - if Travis doesn't have a better solution ... stuck_out_tongue

So, let me know what you'll all think! smile_cat

I'd say the easiest way would be Option 2, since most animes (or at least Dragon Ball TV Shows) already have the first season filled with all episodes. Afterwards we can add as many groups as we like to suit our needs.

Ouh... Didn't see the discussion and tried to update episode names and descriptions for German translation...

I would like to go on with option 2 and, if we have to choose, split it like the japanese wikipage indicates (13 - 15 - 40 - 15 - 18 - 21 - 10 - 21 eps). The Red Ribbon Army Saga should include General Blue and Commander Red because both are part of the Red Ribbon Army. Episode 68 has nothing to do with Uranai Baba who appears first at Episode 69 therefore the split 13 - 15 - 17 - 12 - 10 - 16 - 18 - 21 - 31 would be incorrect because season 6 would start with episode 68 which better fits into the ending of the Red Ribbon Army Saga.

At least there is just a naming question left because season 7 and 8 are both about Picolo Jr. (season 7 focuses on tournament preparation while season 8 is about the tournament).

  • Season 0: Specials
  • Season 1: Emperor Pilaf Saga (13 Eps -> 1-13)
  • Season 2: Tournament Saga (15 Eps -> 14-28)
  • Season 3: Red Ribbon Army Saga (40 Eps -> 29-68)
  • Season 4: Fortuneteller Baba Saga (15 Eps -> 69-83)
  • Season 5: Tien Shinhan Saga(18 Eps -> 84-101)
  • Season 6: King Piccolo Saga (21 Eps -> 102-122)
  • Season 7: Piccolo Jr. Saga (10 Eps -> 123-132)
  • Season 8: Piccolo Jr. Saga (21 Eps -> 133-153)
