Yes, a web series is still a series.

youtube web series are generally not allowed on this site (as per the rules) and usually get deleted (as long as a mod notices it/its brought to the attention of mods from reports).

Youtube web series are not allowed generally: (https://www.themoviedb.org/bible/new_content/59f792cd9251413e93000004#59f7933c9251413e9300000b)
Amateur content guidelines:
.
EDIT: I believe the crash course web series are youtube web series, and if so, then according to the rules I think they are not allowed. (If I'm mistaken that theyre not youtube web series, then thats different)

Sorry, didn’t check that section first. That guideline applies if it is considered Amateur Content. I think this is not well-defined, and only serves to avoid flooding the platform with every video on YouTube, and presumably at the whims of whoever reviews deletion requests.
I don’t think it’s fair to call Crash Course/Complexly productions amateur, they are used educationally around the world, like Bill Nye the Science Guy but available on YouTube for free instead of as DVDs. I suspect the only reason they’re not on other streaming services is because being free is part of their mission.

It's defined pretty well imo. Content uploaded only on YouTube is considered amateur content- not because it actually is amateur content in its totality but more so it doesn't have a professional release (youtube is a social media site where any user can upload videos- and so a release on youtube is not a professional release). Content released on YouTube only is also called amateur content (even if produced professionally) so that its clear that the same guidelines are applied as the ones given in the guidelines for actual amateur content (eg. student films and series).
"Only" serves to avoid flooding the platform with every YouTube video? That's a great reason for the guidelines to exist. The database would be a mess if every video on YouTube flooded this site and they were all allowed
They're only being called amateur for the sake of implementing a good rule. "Amateur" in the context of web series on YouTube simply means, no release on a professional platform. The term is being used to distinguish what is and isnt allowed on the site, not to pass judgement or insult series on youtube.

Key word generally, as in there are exceptions. Lots of them, including Crash Course.

I have reported all of them. So its just a matter of time to see when the mods will see those reports/take the time to deal with those reports/respond. We'll see if whether or not they know something about the Crash Course web series I don't. But as far as I'm aware they should be deleted.
"Generally" means sometimes youtube web series are more than just youtube web series (since some of them end up having professional releases)- and there are also YouTube Red content that is allowed on this site. So I only used "generally" to describe those two misunderstandings someone might have about not understanding the rules. It replaces this= YouTube web series that do no have any other professional releases or are not part of YouTube Red are not allowed on this site.
There are lots of content on this site that is against the rules. That doesnt mean they are exceptions, it just means there are a lot of users creating a lot of mess on the database/breaking the rules of the site and the mods have not dealt with it yet/noticed it yet.

Crash Course has also been available on DVD. It also has a dedicated app, with companion flashcards and the videos are links to YouTube.

I think that would make the Biology and History courses allowed on the site (though Im not 100% sure since I dunno if those DVDs sold on their site count as as a "proper distributer"?). The same applies to the app Im not sure that would count either but I could be wrong.
But it seems Crash Course web series were made available for streaming at some point on the streaming platform "Curiosity Stream" which if so I think would qualify this youtube web series according to the amateur content guidelines:

Mods have responded to previous reports of Crash Course and other YouTube web series like Hot Ones. They have been on here for years with their knowledge.
Edit: Wait there's a mod comment in this thread
