1) So, is it just me or this was way better than the 1973 original?

I doubt it. Isaac is married to Elvira Lind, a Danish screenwriter (here is a photo of the two):

Interesting. So I kind of don't get the point of the very last scene in the final episode. Still loved the breaking the 4th wall aspect of the series.
