Tony and Doug arrive on Devil's Island in March 1895, where they are taken into custody as escaped prisoners. Doug manages to escape and hold the Commandant at gunpoint to convince the man he is a stranded American, but the Commandant plays along until he can get the drop on him. The Project team plan a recovery which goes awry (again), hauling in the prisoner Boudaire. General Kirk tells Boudaire that they cannot escape with Captain Dreyfuss, one of the prisoners, because historically Dreyfuss never escaped at that time, so taking him along would prevent the success of any escape attempt. Boudaire is returned but is shocked by the experience and doesn't remember his instructions. Tony and Doug stage an escape but realize that they have been led to do so so that they can all be ""shot while trying to escape."" Boudaire recalls that Dreyfuss must remain. Tony and Doug attack the ambushing guards while the other prisoners escape, and then are whisked off by the Time Tunnel.

Tony und Doug landen im Jahr 1895 auf der Teufelsinsel. Als das Kontrollzentrum die beiden zurückholen will, gerät ein Häftling in den Zeittunnel. Mit einer Botschaft für Tony und Doug wird er zurückgeschickt. Doch er kommt dort geistig verwirrt an.

Kétségbeesett magyarázkodásuk ellenére mindenki szentül hiszi, hogy ők a két hiányzó fogoly. 1895. március 15-én történelmi eseményre kerül sor: az ártatlanul megvádolt és elítélt Dreyfuss kapitány kerül a szigetre. A rabok bonyolult tervet eszelnek ki a menekülésre, s nem is sejtik, hogy a börtönparancsnok kezére játszanak, akinek az a terve, hogy szökés közben lelöveti a kellemetlenné vált Dreyfusst...

Dal 1852 al 1946 la Francia utilizzò una piccola isola al largo della Guyana come prigione e quando Tony e Douglas vi giungono è già tristemente nota come l'Isola del Diavolo. Gli scienziati vengono scambiati per due evasi e condotti al campo con gli altri detenuti. Qui scoprono che i prigionieri stanno organizzando una fuga per liberare il Capitano Alfred Dreyfus. Tony e Doug sanno che il tentativo è destinato a fallire, perché secondo i libri di storia Dreyfus non riuscì ad evadere dall'isola, ma non riescono a convincere i loro compagni di sventura. Al centro di monitoraggio del progetto, il Generale Kirk, con Swain e Ann MacGregor, tenta di riportare Tony e Doug al presente. Al loro posto giunge un disorientato prigioniero che non ha nessuna intenzione di farsi rimandare indietro...
