Where was Springfield?

My theory is that it is Springfield, Illinois. There is only one U.S. state that has Springfield as its capital. In the episode "The Grass is Greener" an old college friend is in town to meet with the state's governor at 7 p.m., and the Andersons invite him to dinner at 6 p.m. So the governor must live fairly close to them if he's going to make both appointments.
