Despite its worldwide fame, Lascaux is no longer considered to be the “Palace of Versailles” or the “Sistine Chapel” of prehistory, and is no longer considered to be the place of invention or creation of art. What if Lascaux was actually from a “Middle Ages” of prehistoric and human art?

Considérée comme la chapelle Sixtine de la préhistoire, Lascaux, malgré sa célébrité mondiale, n’apparaît plus comme le lieu de l’invention de l’art. Depuis sa découverte quasi miraculeuse en 1940 par quatre adolescents, la grotte a certes été détrônée par d’autres sanctuaires de l’art, comme Chauvet, mais elle a surtout été largement dépassée en ancienneté. Et si Lascaux était le Moyen Âge de l’art préhistorique et humain ?

Man nennt sie auch die „Sixtinische Kapelle“ der Urzeit: die Höhle von Lascaux. Obwohl sie weltweite Bekanntheit erlangt hat, gilt sie mittlerweile nicht mehr als die Geburtsstätte der Kunst. Entstand sie womöglich in einer Art prähistorischem Mittelalter?
