The Movie Database Support

Hi TMDB team,

I’d like to propose the addition of new optional attributes to both movie and TV episode objects in the API, in order to provide more detailed playback metadata. This is especially useful for developers building streaming platforms or smart media players.

Here’s the suggested structure:

For TV episodes only:

  • recap_start_time (float, in seconds): when the recap of the previous episodes start
  • recap_end_time (float): when the recap ends

For all video content (movies and TV episodes):

  • opening_credits_start_time (float): start time of the opening credits
  • opening_credits_end_time (float): end time of the opening credits
  • end_credits_start_time (float): start time of the ending credits
  • end_credits_end_time (float): end time of the ending credits

These fields could be filled either by contributors or via automated analysis tools.

Use case:

  • Skipping recaps and credits in streaming apps
  • Detecting main content sections in AI-based video processing
  • Improving accessibility features

Would love to hear your thoughts on whether this could fit into the TMDB model.

Thanks for the amazing work!

Best regards,
