So I have a college project to create a site that enables users to search for films and save them to a watchlist. What I would like to do (and i have approval from my lecturer) is to create a website that lists ALL the films where the director, writer or main lead is a person of colour. And then users can search, explore films or add them to watchlists. Ideally these lists would then be public so people can share them
How can i access this information? I know that the gender of the director/creator/lead is documented and i can potentially use queries(?) But when it comes to race this may be harder. Has anyone ever done something like this before? Would the best idea be to create a list first, and then use queries to ensure my API only searches that list.
DISCLAIMER: If you feel angered by this, or critical of the fact that I want to create a site that promotes films by non white men - then please just go and do your research, look at the latest oscar nominees or just hold your tongue.

Isn't it rude? the gender of their creator should not filter films, I mean is there a difference in genders?

I'm not sure I understand your question. Is there a difference in genders? Are you talking in terms of the gender spectrum, or in terms of the well-documented unfairness and discrimination experienced by anyone who isn't a straight, white man in Hollywood.
I have updated this now to be an app that lists films created by a person of colour. As a person of colour I regularly want to sift through films so that I can watch something that i will relate to.
Can anyone help me from a technical perspective?

I'm not angry , you got offended to early, no hard feeling behind.
I was just curious if you support gender inequality by making a website only for woman/nonbinary etc. authors I mean if you highlight the author's gender you make it obvious that genders are not equal and it does matter who made a film, don't you?

Our person database does not have a "color" or "colour" field.
Therefore, it is not possible to filter searches by this parameter.
You cannot filter any people search by gender.
Gender is just information in the response.
Not that I know of.
The only parameter for searching for a person is the name.
I believe so.
You create a list of the people you want, each with their respective ID.
And your users search this list.

My two cents is that you cannot realistically build a list of ALL the films directed by people of color because:
In my opinion, the only way to get an accurate list of films directed by non-white people would be to curate one. There are a lot of "director of color" type of lists online that would be a good starting point.
Do you plan to include worldwide films or only films from specific countries with a majority white population? For example, most of the people working on Japanese/Chinese/Korean movies are going to be Asian. Do you want to include all of them? If you do, a person who has been building a lot of data spreadsheets and could maybe give you some tips is @talestalker.
It's none of my business, but have you thought about what it means to build a list of films directed by non-white directors? How are you going to build the list without having to police the identities of the directors?

Thanks for your reply.
So perhaps its easier if I make a black movie database as this is more related to the problem that I am trying to solve. Also there are a few amazing resources that already exist and list such films (https://blackfilmarchive.com/ ). I can make my own list, and encourage suggestions from visitors if there are films I've missed.
There are databases and websites in existence that are dedicated to black businesses, with a view to supporting black-owned businesses. In the UK there is even a "black pound day". This would just be a black movie website. I don't think that there is bad meaning behind this, or that i would have to police anything.
Thanks for your suggestions!

Firstly, your first sentence is problematic and edging on gaslighting. Secondly, I support gender equity as a route to equality. There's a difference. The website would not be suggesting that genders are not equal. The website would simply provide a resource to ANY gender that wants to find the best Action, Horror etc etc films that are created by a person that differs from the gender which every other news outlet, media site and youtube review favours.
I think that if you don't see a need for this, or if it offends you then it would be better to question yourself why rather than questioning my political stance on things.
