The Movie Database Support

Hi. When is the TMDB meta data "released"? I have seen several times, that when I make some editing to TMDB, and I'm able to see the edit on the webpage, the meta data will not be available for scraping for hours, or maybe days.

Procedure:

  • I edit TMDB (typical translations)
  • Save edit
  • Refresh the TMDB page to review the edit - clap my hands (mostly)
  • Scrape TMDB with DS Video, and most of the times I have to make the scraping for hours/days before I can see the meta data in DS Video.

Am I doing something wrong, or?

I think Synology has Cache, which slows it down a bit.
See update questions below.

API - Update Delay

All data or images entered here on the TMDb Site are immediately available here on the Site.
Text data (titles, overview, cast etc...) in less than 1 second.
Images (poster, backdrop etc ...) take approximately 10 to 30 seconds.
It depends on the traffic at the moment.

But for a request made using the API, it will only be available within a maximum of 8 hours.
This period may vary depending on the flow of Requisitions.
Updates to TMDb Servers that are responsible for servicing API Requests are made periodically.
They are not done immediately.

In addition, in some cases, APPs or Services may also use the Cache feature.
The data may be available through an API Request to TMDb's servers,
but are not yet updated on the website or service, such as Letterboxd or Plex.
So, only when the website or service you use, update the information will you have the updates.

Hi. Thanx for taking time and effort to answer me. Cache could be a thing. I have not installed Proxy Server though. The strange thing is that I cannot find any pattern in the scraping behavior.

For FILM the metadata can often be scraped within a couple of minutes, but sometimes the delay is hours, or maybe a day. I did two upload to DS Video to day ("Den sorte jord" and "Richard says goodbye") and they where scraped within minutes. No changes made to TMDB before upload.

For TV SHOWS (series) it varies from minutes to upto three days, so far. I did two edits to TMDB and afterwords uploads to DS Video to day around 12.00 ("Prime suspect (1991)" and "Zone Blanche (2017)"), they are at this moment not scraped correct.

Yesterday I made edits on TMDB to 3 episodes titles of Wallander (https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/7263-wallander/season/3) - they are not yet scraped correctly.

In DS Video I completely remove the folder with the TV Show, re-index and upload the folder again. In this way I think that the software must "look" for the newest data in TMDB, but I really don't know.

I will update "the scrape history".

Hi.

To day I made a translation of "Das Boot" Season 2 (8 episodes) and Season 3 (10 episodes). After maybe an hour I uploaded the seasons to DS Video - season 2 was fully scraped and season 3 only scraped episode 4. My conclusion on scraping metadata from TMDB with DS Video is: If the scraping does not succeed - delete the TV-Show from DS video and try again the next day or even a day more.

All the scrapings I have done has succeeded after a couple of days. I think that it has something to do with the way TMDB "releases/updates" the metadata.

Have a nice day.
